1988 Nissan Pathfinder SE 3.0L V6 from North America
Summary:
Wish I had a brand new one; best car I've ever had, and probably ever will have
Faults:
The transmission has been replaced twice. This is a common problem, and can be prevented by installing an aftermarket transmission oil cooler.
The bushings in the rear control arms had to be replaced, but they were well due at 285k.
Rust is one of the biggest issues to deal with. Under the rear seat and the rear fender wells are the usual areas that rust attacks first.
General Comments:
For a V6, it has plenty of power.
I have been amazed at the technology that this relatively "old" car has.
The heater has always worked very well, and gets the cabin toasty in hardly no time.
Noise insulation is not abundant inside, and so there may be more road noise than other cars.
I enjoy this car, because it's rugged, but also has all of the "creature comforts" such as A/C, CD player etc..
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes
