1981 Nissan Patrol MQ 3.3L diesel (SD33) from Australia and New Zealand
Summary:
Excellent reliability and pleasurable to drive
Faults:
Some bad rust has occurred on the tailgate hinges, the door sills and inside the roof.
Overheating at 400000kms resulted in excessive black smoke and reduced power.
Batteries not charging properly due to faulty regulator unit.
General Comments:
The 24 volt battery system is inefficient, and combined with the SD33 engine provides a downsized truck feel.
The vehicle is very reliable and has had no major problems until its later years.
Although a little sluggish on the road, the old patrol has the power and torque when you need it.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes
