1993 Nissan Sentra E 1.6 from North America

Summary:

Fuel-efficient car you just CAN'T kill!

Faults:

C/V joints went out at 130,000 miles. Passenger-side C/V joint went out again at 195,000 miles. These were refreshingly easy to replace (less than 2 hours for both).

Struts went out at 170,000 miles, but are fairly easy to replace.

5th gear on transmission went out around 175,000 miles, but still runs fine with just four gears. :)

Head liner dropped at 180,000 miles.

Clutch cable snapped at 140,000 miles and again at 180,000. Suspect the whole clutch assembly needs replacing, but we are lazy. :)

General Comments:

This car was used as a commuter car for my wife. She drove 180 miles to school and back for four years and never had the car leave her stranded except for one time when the clutch cable broke. Overall, this car has been the most dependable car we have owned and with the least amount of maintenance. You just can't beat a car you jump in and drive to over 210,000 miles at 35+ miles/gallon dependably.

Our poor Nissan has finally bitten the dust (something about the fuel system I believe) and is just no longer worth repairing. Absolutely no regrets or complaints and would highly recommend the Sentra line for anyone wanting fuel-efficient, econo-box travel.

Great little car, can't say enough positive things, the alternator went bad due to the oil leaking on to it.

1993 Nissan Sentra XE 4 cylinder from North America

Summary:

Reliable and economical

Faults:

My Sentra XE had relatively few problems during the time I owned it. Here are the ones I can remember:

The brakes, front and rear, all had to be replaced at 100,000 miles. At 120,000 miles, the brakes began to vibrate and make noise.

At 90,000 miles, the weather stripping on the driver's side door came off.

At 158,000 miles, the entire exhaust system had to be replaced due to rust.

Around 130,000 miles, the air conditioner started to smell really bad. We never were able to figure out why.

General Comments:

The Sentra was an amazingly reliable car. It always started up, even in sub-zero temperatures. It handled quite well in snow. The engine was not powerful, but it got good fuel economy. The interior was not very spacious -- in fact, it was quite cramped -- but that is to be expected from a small car.

I wish I had kept it for a while longer instead of trading it in toward a newer American car.

I will definitely consider a Nissan when it comes time to buy a car again.

Very good car indeed!!! But don't judge to quickly, I had to drive my American car a lot of times when my Sentra was broke down!!!

I've had fewer problems from my Chevy Silverado. My Sentra has all the same problems as yours does, plus a few more. Fortunately the previous owner replaced the exhaust. The weather stripping on the doors hangs off and the roof material has dry rotted. I hope it will start doing better, but it does have high miles already. I've put 1500 dollars into it in the last month. I could have just bought gas for the chevy.

AC smell issue can be tended by spraying a bleach and water mixture (5 to 1) into the intake grate located at the rear of the windshield while the AC is on, through a hand pumped spray bottle.

1993 Nissan Sentra XE 1.6 from North America

Summary:

Great little car

Faults:

Fuel Pump at 58,000 miles.

Alternator at 75,000 miles.

AC on 150,000 miles.

General Comments:

I am so sorry I have to get rid of my 93 sentra. Since I have to replace almost entire AC system, I'm selling the car. Other vise, I'd keep pushing it. Of course, 1.6 liter engine can't bring you whole lotta power, I still like it. I'm going down to dealership today, and buying me another one. I found good deal on 2002 model, and it is mine.
