1991 Nissan Stanza EX 2.4L from North America
Summary:
Overall, is a nice, solid car
Faults:
I bought this car from my mother-in-law, who had it 12 years & took good care of it (regular maintenance). I drive 134 miles a day to-from work with it. The engine crapped out on me at approx 130,000 - I'm pretty sure the timing belt/chain broke. The spark plugs were all smashed on the tips when the mechanic (unfortunately a fly-by-night one) investigated the problem. He put in a used engine & tranny, which later overheated & was "fried" at about 190,000. I found a good mechanic & he got a good used motor to fix it up. Unfortunately, we didn't change out the "overheated" tranny, & it failed about 220,000. Finally got it fixed up again.
General Comments:
Get about 22-24 MPG.
Overall the car is sound - great pickup, good handling. The power equipment (locks, windows, cruise) still works. The A/C is original compressor & coil - does the job of cooling the car in the South.
I replaced the old cassette player & speakers with a Kenwood CD player when I got it.
It has lots of room - slept in it a few times while doing Katrina duty down here.
It has the old type seat belts that slide up over the door when you get in - been hit in the head a few times. Normal wear & tear.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes
