1990 Nissan Sunny LS 1.4 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Solid, cheap, and indestructible

Faults:

Battery was flat after leaving the car unattended for three weeks.

General Comments:

Surprisingly good condition for a 15 year old, 95 thousand mile car.

Starts instantly from cold.

Can still overtake much younger cars without much effort.

Timing chain rather than a belt - much more reliable.

Engine is accessible and easy to maintain.

1990 Nissan Sunny ZX Coupe 1.8 Twin Cam from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Superb, don't want to get rid of it - ever

Faults:

Water pipe that feeds inlet manifold split and needed replacing - difficult to get at, but not expensive.

General Comments:

The car is extremely good fun and drives well.

It starts no problem and ticks over nicely.

It has 127bhp and with a 1.8 Twin Cam is pretty quick.

Unusual looking car, not many of them around and it does turn a few heads.

1990 Nissan Sunny LS 1.4 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A cheap, reliable Japanese motor

Faults:

Stereo was dead when I first bought the car, so a £40 replacement from Argos was installed.

Car cuts out sometimes in very hot weather, especially in traffic jams, although I'm told this is normal for this sort of engine.

Starter-motor is sometimes a bit reluctant to do its job quickly without making a horrible noise.

A rust patch needed a sand-back and a bit of paint - purely cosmetic.

General Comments:

Very reliable car, which I would take anywhere.

Only money I've spent on it is the Stereo, and some bits for DIY servicing. (Who'd take a 13 year-old car to a Nissan dealer?!)

The engine is incredibly simple, so DIY maintenance is simple enough. Won't have any cambelt problems, because it's got a chain instead!

The steering is sometimes heavy (mainly when parking), but I got used to it fairly quickly. Other than that, it handles well.

Performance is excellent for a 1.4 litre car. It moves away swiftly, and would probably hit 100mph.

It's comfortable in the driver's seat, but people traveling in the back complain!

Overall, a good, cheap, reliable car.

I've now had the car for 3 more months, and taken the mileage up to 88,000. It's not skipped a beat, always starts first time, even in sub-zero Middlesbrough!

The engine runs better on LRP in the cold, rather than unleaded - don't know why! (higher octane rating?!) Perhaps the 12-hour return journey home for Christmas will do it some good...

1990 Nissan Sunny zx 18i 16v twin cam from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Fast fun in a sunny

Faults:

Both front window mechanism's when I bought the car.

Slave cylinder started to jam.

And a new clutch at 90,000 miles.

Rust has started on the arches and some parts of the body, but other than that the car is in great condition.

General Comments:

This car blew my mind it is seriously fast for a standard car a boy racers dream.

Not a car to be underestimated at all it will eat your RS Turbos from a standing start.

This car is rare and might not be the best looker in the bunch, but it does have a big heart.

Power to weight ratio this car rules.

Summary:

A wolf in sheep's clothing

Faults:

The fuel and temperature gauge are not working.

General Comments:

This car is a wolf in sheep's clothing.

It is extremely quick for it's age.

I love the shape and design of the car.

I am planning an engine conversion which will get the car seriously noticed.

I would love to hear from people with the same car.

1990 Nissan Sunny GSX Coupe 1.6 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A big suprise

Faults:

Interior light has burnt out.

Interior mirror drops down when the sun is on it.

General Comments:

I enjoyed owning my bluebird because it was so reliable, but this sunny has all the reliability and the added bonus of being very quick, and good to look at. It will pull up a steep hill in fifth gear, at a fair old rate. It still leaves people standing at the lights. It is a very comfortable seating position, if a little short of leg room in the back. Only carry short people in the back is the answer, or even better don't carry anyone then you can have the music on full blast and drive it like the wind. When this one passes on to another life I shall be hard pressed to find anything that will be as comfortable, reliable and half as much fun.
