1996 Nissan Sunny Basic 1.5 Gasoline from United Arab Emirates

Summary:

Best and most reliable car I ever found

Faults:

Replaced front bumper. Though it was not badly needed, but my friend gifted it to me (was an old parts garage owner).

Engine was replaced after 7 years as there was blue smoke, which was not bothering me, but recommended by the local car testing authority. I was amazed that a new engine cost me only 250 dollars and replacement labor etc only 90 dollars.

Door lock was broken my mistake by my son. Had to get from a company for 125 dollars (compare with engine price).

Otherwise nothing in 10 years.

General Comments:

I bought this car in average condition, in 2000 it cost me 4000. Earlier it was roughly used by rent a car. But I am amazed at the reliability of this car. I have been driving it for 10 years. Never broke down.

1/2 Self start same AC with chill cooling. No tuning whatsoever for 10 years. One wash per year before testing. You can hardly notice the sound of engine. Pick up is like a hot blooded horse. Almost daily I screech the tires on pick up, People having expensive automatic cars are annoyed, but can never catch me before the next signal.

1996 Nissan Sunny Super Saloon 1.6 from Kenya

Summary:

Buy the B14 Super saloon; cheap, reliable, comfy and fast if you are not afraid to step on it

Faults:

Shocks blew very quick. I blame that on African roads though. uprated the suspension with tougher coil springs and my next pair of shocks have almost 2 years now.

The brakes are a bit too soft for comfort on high speeds (p.s.96 model has no ABS)

Front and rear bumpers TOO soft! a slight bump and you are off to the panel beater!

Spontaneous high revving at idle once in a blue moon. Goes to 3000rpm without warning. problem 'goes away' for a month or so. dunno why.

General Comments:

This car has taken me many many KMS of trouble free motoring. It gives you what you want: speed if you step on it; good gas mileage if you don't.

It is quite fast and has always beaten my friends' bigger, but comparable cars e.g. Toyota Premio, Galant etc.

Has good handling and is spacious (I have driven many mid-sized saloon cars) and the Sunny is A1.

Make sure you replace any parts it requires on time (CV joints etc)

I'm only selling it because I need a car with ABS and double airbags. Will miss it.

1996 Nissan Sunny Super Saloon 1.5 petrol from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Absolutely marvelous car!

Faults:

Absolutely nothing.

Windscreen wipers had to be replaced due to bad wear, but hey, that happens to all good cars.

General Comments:

This car is a dream come true.

While it doesn't have remarkable acceleration, uptake from e.g. 50 to 100kph is quite quick.

While its acceleration isn't sports car style, its handling is. It has a bit of body roll, but that is more than compensated for by the excellent grip on the road surface. Your butt will lose traction on your seat before the car will lose traction on the road.

Stereo isn't magnificent, but that was quickly remedied with a new one.

Cabin is very spacious, even for a rather large guy like myself.

Airbag makes me feel quite safe.

Air conditioner works like a charm - a real dream come true. If you get into the hot car and switch on the air con, it doesn't turn into a blast furnace - it waits until the air con actually blows cold air, and then it turns the fan up.

Marvelous reliability - doesn't even use a drop of oil or water or anything - the only things I have to top up on every now and then are windscreen washer fluid and petrol.

It's extremely economical. NZ$50 per month is more than enough for petrol, with a daily commute.

All in all, I'll definitely buy another one! Judging from this car, the Sunny Super Touring (1.8 liter) will be the ultimate driving experience for those of us who haven't won the Lotto.
