2005 Nissan X-Terra LS 4.0 6-cylinder from North America

Summary:

A reliable, efficient, durable and elegant beast

Faults:

Nothing outside regular wear and tear.

General Comments:

One of the best SUV's out there, hands down.

I like cars and currently own 3 including a RAM pick up truck. Tried over 10 different SUV's over the past 20 years and by far this one takes the cake.

Engine: Very efficient, powerful and easy on gas. Over 350k clicks on it and still running like a champ.

Steering and suspension: Goes straight like a bullet, never replaced any steering components since bought 15 years ago. Replaced suspension about 7 years ago. The car is well-balanced, steers like a sports car. Just make sure to have good tires on it. Suspension is a bit hard, but this is expected for such an SUV that can go off-road with 2-mode 4WD.

Body: Still holding strong with very few surface rust spots that can easily be treated. Good paint job and good metal on this car. Paint on the bumpers can fade out rather quickly, but still looks good. Air-tight doors and windows. No rattling or ANY kind of noise on this 20 year old car. Very impressive.

Driving experience: Not the most comfortable out there (comparing to Yukon Denali's, for instance) but sure is comfortable enough for driving in the city or on the highway. Well-designed interior, everything is within easy reach and clear enough. Seats are comfortable for the long ride. We drove it when we moved from Toronto to Calgary (~3,500km drive) fully loaded, in the mountains, middle of a harsh winter. Not a single hiccup. No backpain or sore legs. Except for a bit worn-out seat cloth, the interior of this car still looks new and all lights working, handles, knobs, tabs you name it. Truly impressive.

Summer driving, winter driving, rain, snow, oil, ice, dirt or grass, it doesn't matter, it will just keep going. Never once left me stranded, and I do drive a lot.

Heating and cooling work like charm, air blower has never been replaced and it just started to make very faint noise that disappears once you start driving. Stereo system is good enough, loud enough with crisp sound and nice boom (no rattling).

This car have seen the mechanic probably 4-5 times during the past 15 years of ownership. Once to replace the starter, then the suspension (shocks), then the timing belt and some other wear and tear items. That's it. You can do a good amount of work on this car yourself, especially the consumables like brake pads, filters, sensors, fluids even radiator fan and hoses. My son got both passenger side doors damaged in an accident and I got them both replaced in under 3 hours.

So much to say about this beast and I only felt compelled to leave this review after replacing the 2 camshaft position sensors after 20 years. The car started and drove fine even with bad battery and bad sensors. Amazing. Now it starts like a brand new car and drives even smoother.

So much to say here, but all in all, the only car that made it to the 15 year mark with me, and I will continue driving it until it falls apart. Now looking for a second one. Kudos to Nissan!

Nothing, the Xterra and Nissan are amazing.

Plastic covering scratches in hatch (from use), but it's also super easy to clean for outdoor users that get it dirty!

Never had an issue, very solid vehicle on all facets. Always felt safe.

2005 Nissan X-Terra 4x4 off road from North America

Summary:

Great car

Faults:

New air-filters.

Manufacturer required more frequent oil change than my Beetle.

Downhill automatic gearbox would be stuck at low gear revving the engine. Just needed some throttle re-adjustment.

General Comments:

Great car.

Large space.

Feel rugged and great for offroading.
