2005 Nissan X-Terra S 4.0 litre from North America
Summary:
Hunk of junk
Faults:
We have had to get the brake pads replaced. We complained about the brakes squealing since day one and they kept saying it was because it was a new vehicle, now when the 12 month warranty on the brakes is up, they needed replacing.
The belt pulley has been replaced. We took it in because it was squealing a little. When we left it was worse and we had to wait a week for parts.
We had to replace the wiring harness (recall).
The bushings on the front sway bar are cracked and squeaking. They have to be replaced (waiting again for parts).
General Comments:
The Xterra has throttle response, and lots of power.
Isn't very practical for throwing kids in the back seat.
Service @ Nissan is awful. The last oil change I received they ran into a pole while washing it, they never have parts in stock, and are rude.
I will never buy another Nissan product again!!!
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? No

You, original thread starter, won't buy another Nissan because:
A pulley squeaks? The brakes squeak and they need to be replaced after 1 year? The dealership hit a pole with your XTERRA? You can't throw your kids in the back?
All of this looks minor and waiting for parts, at a dealership, isn't any cause for your completely negative attitude toward Nissan. Also, parts get recalled on quite a few vehicles.
If you expect a perfect vehicle, you are sadly mistaken. Every vehicle has flaws. Some are more major than others. And from what I have read, from your post, you are complaining about part are under warranty. Brake pads are fairly inexpensive and easy to replace.

I also have a 2005 Xterra that I purchased new. I've had many problems with mine too. My idler pulley needed to be replaced and also the timing chain and the pre-tensioners. Other things some bolt broke in the front end and the heater blower went. I also find the Nissan dealer rude and they never have the parts in stock and they always need to order them. My warranty is almost up and I will never buy another Nissan.

I've never owned, but have driven the same Xterra many times. I am impressed. It's very nimble, has plenty of power, the turning radius is awesome for its size, the interior is well thought out and high quality, and of course, being a Nissan, the engine is as smooth as glass.
Not to mention, this might be the most fun to drive SUV I've ever driven. It has plenty of room inside, is comfortable, rides like a Cadillac, but also feels like it wants you to turn right off the road and take it through the mud and rocks. My only complaint is the gas mileage, but, nothing's perfect.
