1993 Oldsmobile Achieva SC 3.3L V6 from North America

Summary:

Good deal with lots of pep

Faults:

Have had the alternator rebuilt the day after I got it. Have a low RPM problem, but that will be fixed soon.

Interior light switch gave up - normal wear.

General Comments:

This car has great pick up and go, and other than the low idle problem (which will be fixed soon) is a very good deal. This car handles great at low and high speeds.

The interior is very nicly designed and the exterior with fog lights makes it look classy.

1993 Oldsmobile Achieva LS 2.3 Liter from North America

Summary:

It handles very well and is a great little car when running

Faults:

I had to replace the alternator. It took about 20 minutes and was very easy to do.

Currently I have a problem that no one seems to be able to figure out. It quit running a few days ago and I had to tow it home. I changed the plugs and made sure that spark was present, but I could only get it to run by staying on the gas and keeping it above 1500 RPM. I towed it to a shop and had them put it on an analyzer. They told me the Crank Position Sensor had failed and that no other bad codes were detected. The part cost $18.50 and was easy to replace. However, this did not fix the problem. Has anyone run into this problem? If so, what is the solution?

I am not positive about whats wrong with your car but my mom recently had a problem with her truck, and it sounds a little bit like what you described, my suggestion is to maybe have the fuel injectors checked because that can sometimes cause it to run badly or not at all, I am not an expert or anything but I hope it is some help.

I have had the same problem and I had to clean the fuel injectors 2 times and it worked.

1993 Oldsmobile Achieva S quad four from North America

Summary:

Good car, just a little work to be a perfect car

Faults:

The major problem I've had with my car is shaking in the front end at high speeds, had tires balanced 4 different times, replaced all tires, alignment done 3 times, replaced front struts, replaced front brake pads, rotors & serviced the calipers, still has shaking, getting ready to send it to the dealership, no other garages can find the problem.

The warning lights (check gauge & check oil) come on and off all the time, garage says oil pressure is fine, the gauge cluster is bad, replaced the whole gauge cluster and still has the same problem.

Replaced a large vacuum hose with a heating element built into it and an electrical connection (hole in hose made the service engine light come on when in park) dealer only part 140.00.

General Comments:

The Oldsmobile is a great car for my family, big enough for all four of us, plenty of room for our twin stroller, & more in the trunk.

Always is reliable.

However the way the car handles because of the shaking problem is it's biggest fault (I would be glad to figure out the problem and get it fixed).

I would enjoy any answers to my problem, my email is aptiva7@capital.net

In my 92 Achieva I have noticed that the front end shaking was due to very dirty, muddy inside rims. After a scrape and wash the tires ride returned, but if you don't catch it quick, the alignment goes.

I ordered my 93' Achieva S 2dr 3.3 new in 92. It was moms faithful grocery getter for the past 12 years. It has very low miles, 54,446 and is falling apart. For the past year things have been going wrong despite routine maintenance and care. Window regulators, interior falling apart, elect locks, brakes, sensors, cat converter, it has a shimmy despite a wheel alignment, new tires and balancing. It still does not seem to run right and now there are constant brake problems. Despite it's pristine appearance, I'm at my spendable limit for this vehicle. With the 96' model years out, the worth of a 93 S achieva 3.3 is about 1500 bucks. It's going up for sale and if there are no takers, it goes for a trade in.
