1999 Oldsmobile Alero from North America

Summary:

A big headache and a LARGE BILL!!!

Faults:

Well, its nice to hear that I am not the only one that is having problems with this vehicle. I have owned this car for almost five years now and have replaced the window motors now 11 TIMES!!! This is getting very frustrating and I am now taking legal action against GM. Hopefully something will come of it.

In addition to the window regulators being a piece of junk. My alternator went bad after 40,000 miles.

Another issue I have had with GM's faulty products is I had to replace all of my wheel barrings after 50,000 miles.

General Comments:

I highly suggest not buying an Alero or any other GM products. It is just asking for a headache and a LARGE BILL!!!

1999 Oldsmobile Alero GL 2.4 from North America

Summary:

If you like spend your spare time working on a car then this is the car for you!

Faults:

Fog light had to be replaced when I got it, cracked with water inside.

My fuel injectors had to be replaced at 86,000 miles, car one day after coming out of the store, took about 10 seconds to turn over then would stall if I didn't keep the idle higher than 1500 rpms. Went about driving it that way for about two weeks before the car became so bad that it wouldn't even start anymore. Costed me $375.

Window clips for both windows broke around 88,000 miles when I got the windows tinted, you have to replace the whole motor and everything ranging around 200 a widow, yet to be replaced.

Battery died at 93,000 miles.

Alternator had to be replaced around 107,000 miles.

The whole engine had to be replaced at 110,000 so I had to find one at a junkyard and have it put in by a friend, thank god I went with that cheaper option, costed 1,000 instead of 3,700 from a local mechanic.

Gas gauge began malfunctioning at 120,000 and still doesn't work.

General Comments:

When I first got this car I feel in love with it. Two door black coupe looked very sleek! Although Beauty isn't everything as I found out with my many trips to the mechanic.

Everyone comments on how good the car looks although they have no idea the money it takes just to keep it on the road. I had to pay for all these repairs myself, all while being in high school!

Hi I agree that this car takes lots of money to keep it on the road. I'm a student in college, and it's getting to be a bit much. Right now it's at the mechanic, and it's not running again. I never thought of the fuel injectors and I will mention that to the mechanic. But as soon as I can, I am dumping this car.

Wow, you are young, no car is going to run forever without issues. I especially love the part about someone breaking the window clips after tinting the windows (yea that's the manufactures fault?) - I would have went back to the place (Or alley) you got the tint job done.
