2001 Oldsmobile Alero from North America

Summary:

An expensive, good looking car that is not worth the trouble or the money.

Faults:

Car has been a lemon since I bought it, but have thus far been unsuccessful in getting out of it. In the past three years it has been in the shop around 20 to 30 different times. The majority of the problems have been electrical. The security light (ignition lock and box module have been replaced three times), the chip for the dashboard lights has been replaced twice, the radio has been replaced - just to name a few things.

General Comments:

I bought the car because it was a nice looking car and Oldsmobile is known for good cars.

I did not know that I was going to be stuck with an unreliable car within the first month of owning it.

I just got stranded in the middle of IL on the way to Chicago because my car has so many problems.

2001 Oldsmobile Alero GL from North America

Summary:

Not good enough for the bargain bin

Faults:

-Electrical started acting up. When turning radio on windshield wipers would start going.

-Door ajar light remained on for several minutes.

-Sound system in vehicle has no bass, very limited.

-Poor acceleration, better suited for older folks who drive slowly.

-Clunk sound every few minutes.

-Seat-belts failed miserably, and I haven't even got in an accident. It would be safer NOT to wear them!!!

-Breaks kick in on high acceleration, especially while on hilly roads.

-I have never had to refill the windshield washer because it never worked.

General Comments:

-Generally these cars are peices of junk, and I would never purchase one again. It's no wonder they stopped producing them, either they all broke or nobody wants them except the elders!

I have had many many problems with my junk pile they call alero. but the acceleration cannot be beat for the price.

Probably the fastest car I've ever owned. (that is when it runs)

2001 Oldsmobile Alero GLS from North America

Summary:

Lots of options at a bargain

Faults:

My rear brakes had to be replaced at 45000 miles.

My front brakes had to be replaced at 70000 miles.

Three wheel bearings had to be replaced.

The accelerator sensor went at 60000 miles.

Turn signal went at 30000 miles.

General Comments:

This car is great in the winter.

It has had a few problems, but it is to be expected for a car with over 70000 miles.

I bought my car for $11500 and it's a great car for the price.

2001 Oldsmobile Alero GL 3.4 V6 from North America

Summary:

Don't buy anything by Oldsmobile

Faults:

My drivers side wheel bearing went bad at 65K miles. My right wheel bearing went bad at 80K miles.

I had it into the dealership 3 times for a accelerator sensor that would cause the car to speed up to 50 MPH without my foot on the gas. I had to drive with my foot on the brake until I could get into the dealership.

I had my Alero into the dealership twice for my drivers side electric window.

All of the paint on my radio and steering wheel controls wore off, so you can't read any of the numbers, and light shows through all of them.

General Comments:

Don't buy an Alero unless you have money and time to throw away.

I have owned 6 new GM cars, and loved all, but the Alero. This car is horrible.

I purchased this car for $20K, and 1 year later is was worth $5K. So of course I am stuck with the car until I pay it off, because it's not worth anything. No dealership will take it for a trade in, unless I roll over $7000.00.

2001 Oldsmobile Alero GLS 3.4L V6 from North America

Summary:

Junk

Faults:

Two weeks after I bought my car, I had to replace the power steering pump.

Service Vehicle Soon, Track off, and Anti lock lights have been on for the last 3 months.

Need new Wheel Bearings.

Service Engine Soon light comes on once and awhile and car will shift hard, feels like it has a shift kit in it.

My car will not start if there is less than 1/2 a tank of gas.

Breaks are starting to make a weird grinding/clicking noise.

All four windows have scratch marks on them from something inside the door scratching them when you roll them down.

Useless in the winter if there is more than 1/2 inch of snow on the ground.

General Comments:

I have had this car for less than 6 months, and it was the first time I ever bought a car. It is the biggest money pit, and I will never buy a GM product again.
