I purchased my Alero in March 2000, I traded in my 1999 Mustang for this car... this is what they supposedly call it, I guess. My car has about 52000 miles and over the last 2 years I have had nothing, but problems. My dash board has buckled and my blinkers work on a good day. My husband has changed the bulbs, and even went as far as re-wiring the blinkers to no avail. We have found that if you bang on the hazard light button the blinkers start to work. Also, all of my engine coolant light comes on when I accelerate all the time. My "trac off" light stayed on for about 3 weeks and then went off by itself. My security light comes on sometimes and the car will not start because of it. I have had plenty of problems with this car. Oh yeah, I also had a whole new front in suspension put in before the car reached 36,000 miles. Luckily this went out before the warranty ran out.

Have a 2000 Alero and the problems are as specified. Engine coolant light comes for no reason, the rotors and brakes are terrible and have been replaced twice. Check engine light comes on for no reason. The drivers side window does not work since the regulator has malfunctioned and the cost of a new one is 300.00.
The most recent problem is the car will start and run for 115 minutes, but as soon as you drive it the car shuts down.

My 2000 Alero has developed the "Engine quits while driving" problem. Initally the Trac Off light came on when the engine died. The first time the engine refired after I coasted down to 45 MPH from 65. The engine then quit altogether a mile further, restarted after a few minutes, quit again in 1/2 mile. It then started once more, the Trac Off light went off, but the Service Engine Soon light came on and stayed on - permanently, though I did make it home.
The manual says that bad gas could cause that symptom and I had purchased a full tank earlier in the day. The manual also says the light could go off on its own with another tankful. I drove only about another 100 miles over a 2 week period when it suddenly quit on me. About one hour later it quit again in nearly the same spot, going up a hill.
The car has been in the shop since, but when the serviceman first looked at the light was off, and the car ran fine. I picked it up and drove up a hill 1/4 mile from the station at the car died. 20 minutes later it started again and I drove back to the station, it died again, but then started and ran for an hour while I was there. Occasionaly the Trac Off light came on, and went off again. Now they are having difficulty starting it.
Everyone thinks it's a fuel problem, but we don't know. I have 66,000 on the car. I'm also ready for a second set of front brakes, the first replacement at 18K. Until now I've been very satisfied with the car.

I love my 1999 Olds Alero however, at 47,000 miles it is starting to give me some trouble. Sometimes when I start up the engine, it will run for a few seconds and then die. I've learned to keep one foot on the gas, and the other on the brake. Every time I accelerate the low track light comes on for a few seconds, and sometimes the track off and ABS lights come on and stay on until I shut the car off. The driver's side window motor stopped working and now the passenger side window is intermittently working. The rotor's are warped and an engine mount is shot. I'm not sure what this new sound is, but the car makes an strange creaking noise as it flexes on an incline. Even though this car has it's fair share of problems, it's still beautiful and comfortable.

I purchased a 2000 Alero, and have had problems for about a year. the Service Engine Light keeps coming on. I've taken it to the dealer and they can't find anything wrong with it. Every morning I crank it up, the track light comes on, until I drive about a mile. I haven't figured out what's the problem with my car, but hopefully, I'll have some luck and it will get better.

I have a 2002 Alero that keeps on cutting off. Several times when I have been driving it, it has just shut off on me without warning. I turn the key to the off position and then turn the vehicle on and it is usually okay for awhile. My Alero only has about 43,000 miles on it. I just had the fuel pump replaced and the lines flushed, but it hasn't seemed to help.
Also, when I go to start my Alero, it will not turn over, or when it does it sounds like it might not. Sometimes it starts just fine. I have taken my car to the dealership and they keep saying it's a fuel problem for both things. They fix it, but the car keeps doing the same things.

I have a 2000 Alero with 42,000m miles on it. I have had the driver's side window replaced twice. The rotors had to be replaced at 18,000 miles which I hear is common for this car. Now I am having trouble with it dying and not starting. I have had the fuel pump replaced, but it is still doing it. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

I have a 2000 Alero and I do think it has the best interior layout and sharp looks, but I am amazed that there are so many similar problems. Mine are: (currently 64,000 miles) @ 26,000 the transmission was replaced, drivers side window switch replaced, both rear door trims replaced, radio /CD player replaced. I am ready to put my 4th set of brakes on. Also, the dash cover closest to the windshield looks wrinkled. @ 60,000 miles the front windshield molding came off and let water into the junction box which shorted wires and messed up the computer. Now, the car will not start if the temp is 35f or below. It starts for two seconds then shuts down. It is caused by the security system however it CANNOT be disabled. With all of the problems the dealership can never figure out what is wrong. They get on the phone with GM and they don't know either. They say the computer just gives them erroneous codes. Finally, the latest problem is the engine sounds like a lifter or two has kick the bucket. After nine years GM recalled the 95+ Aurora. Don't know if I can wait that long.

My check engine light came on today. It's probably the tenth time this has happened since I bought it new in 2000. I have less than 60,000 km. It's becoming a bit of pain, to say the least. I've also had multiple problems with brakes--rotors, callipers, etc.
