I own a 1999 Alero 4 door GL and I bought it used back in Oct. 0f 2000 with 28000 miles on the engine. I have oil changed it every 3000 miles and have put two sets of tires all around. The brakes where replaced only once and besides that everything else has been great. I have on the odometer now 173000 miles and this olds seems to ask for more... still pushes strong on power, brakes hold tight and all the accessories still work fine. I love the little car because it has held it's own through the worst and best of what I have put it through. It hasn't been in any wrecks or close calls thank God, but if I had to complain about anything it would be about the side driver and passenger mirrors. They have never held tight to the door, they loosen and almost have fallen off while I was driving down the road. I replace them with new ones and in no time they loosen up and almost fall off again. Oh well, I can deal with that because over all its still a great little car. So what if she seems to dislike her side mirrors, everything else she takes care of and that my friend is the real story.

I think all 1999 Aleros have break problems after 30K. I cannot attest to the solidness of my post-Accident Alero GLS. I got in a small fender bender. (only bumper replaced) Right after, the hazard light button fell into the inside of the dash, window switch went bad, started having weird issues with my speedometer and warning lights flashing and going haywire. The paint chips everywhere. Can't complain too much because at least it's still running - thank GOD!!!
I indeed think that there are a certain number of these cars purposely sent out as lemons... I just hate that they don't hold their resale or trade-in values.
