1999 Oldsmobile Intrigue LS 3.5 V6 from North America
Summary:
The 3.5 V-6 in this car is not right considering the care it has been given and I would buy another
Faults:
I purchased the car from the original owner and she said that the oil was changed every 3000 miles, but, since I bought it I am adding a quart of oil every 1800 miles. Also, there is a clunking sound coming from the left front end when the steering wheel is turned hard to the right or left.
General Comments:
I have owned many, many cars during the last 39 years that I have been buying and driving cars and this vehicle is using an excessive amount of oil when you consider the low miles on the engine. I enjoy the comfort of the olds intrigue, but, I am concerned about the oil consumption and the feel of the steering.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know

Unfortunately, it is not the same 3.5, if (as I believe) you are referring to the NorthStar derived "ShortStar" V6. The new 3.5's are a reworked version of the 60 degree V6, formerly in 2.8, 3.1, and 3.4 liter trim. They are all good engines (except for the intake manifold gasket fiasco on the 3.4's), but I would much prefer the ShortStar. Yet another horrendous corporate decision by GM.

Everything official I've seen, and Intrigues I've viewed, show that the 3.8L was on the 1998 Intrigue, the 3.5L engine was introduced for the 1999 model year, NOT available on the 1998.
So I don't know about your comments on the 3.5L engine. Intrigues continued to carry the 3.5L from 1999 until they were discontinued in the early 2000s, according to my data. -- So they couldn't have been too bad, could they?
Also, the latest new GM 6 cylinder models are starting to use the 3.5L engine as well.
