1979 Opel Kadett L 1.3 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

I'm sure its mother loved it dearly... but I didn't...

Faults:

Electrical faults drained the battery - never managed to find them all, so always carried jump leads.

Heater broke down in two different ways - heat exchanger and then fan (not economic to repair, as the car only cost 90 quid). Lead to permanent condensation problems until the car finally broke (see below).

Fourth gear broke (quite literally - a chunk snapped off) while going rather quickly past Potter's Bar on the M25. That was the end of the car.

General Comments:

It is still my least-favourite car I have owned, it was bought as a stop-gap and it only just managed to fulfill that role. The most useful part of it was the wing mirror which I broke off before taking it to the scrapyard, which served me as a shaving mirror for many years.

1979 Opel Kadett City 1.2 from Denmark

Summary:

Cheap, reliable and fun car

Faults:

Not much, just the normal wear. New brakes once in a while. Rust is a big problem though.

General Comments:

My girlfriend bought this car in 2002 and we have used it as a car nr. 2 ever since. I am using it on a daily basis.

It is very cheap to repair on, and really fun to drive. And surprisingly reliable, especially the engine, who just runs and runs and runs.

With its old fashioned technology it is a bit of a sports car: Rear wheel drive, no ABS, no esp, no servo.

1979 Opel Kadett City 1.2 Hatchback. 1.2 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Want some fun and pleasure get one...........

Faults:

Replaced springs and shocks.

Some body panels.

Treated rust areas.

General Comments:

I bought this car for £100 as a little runabout in 1999 when I was broke and out of work.

I used to do 56000 miles a year in company cars.

Goes like a little bullet.

Truly handles like it's on rails.

Very very reliable, took it partially restored to IOM TT 2002. It never missed a beat pulled uphills like a little train.

So nice decided to restore it and keep it as part of the family.

Apart from cult club in germany very rare and different little car in the u.k. now.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know
