1994 Perodua Kancil 660 EX 660 from Malaysia

Summary:

Good for economical driving.

Faults:

The engine sound is annoying (noisy). The suspension is very bad. It is not strong enough to carry 4 adults at one time especially when climbing hills. The air-conditioner does not function well even after servicing. The gear is always stuck when you are changing to first gear when starting to drive from a complete stop. Recently, the driveshaft just broke and I had to replaced it. The transmission oil has been changed twice in 12 months. The wiper became loose from its place and had to be replaced.

General Comments:

This car have a very economical fuel consumption. It is a very small mini car that is easy to park and drive on narrow roads. It is more suitable to be driven alone as the engine capacity is only 660cc. The servicing fees are tolerable. It is like a toy car where you can polish your driving skills when you drive this car. A lot of driving schools in Malaysia use the Perodua Kancil as a driving car besides other cars. This car is not equipped with airbag, EBD, ABS, side impact bars and any other safety features. So, I have to be extra careful when driving this car to avoid accidents. You can imagine will happen if an accident occurs. The car might be smashed to pieces... I might become like KFC mashed potatoes. Just imagine..........

My friend, I found that your statement is really sickening on that young and bright prospect Kancil. I think you had put to high expectation on that small car, why don't you put it as a light economical basic car. Well its just nice to its very suitable for learning period for just its widely use by the driving school in Malaysia. Anyhow I'm having 2 Kancils and my wife and kids is enjoying the car. Until today since 2001 I bought the car I let my kids to drive the car and taught them how. Now even my ten years old daughter can drive a car especially Kancil with my assistance, what a fun mennnnnn...

2001 Perodua Kancil LX 950cc from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Excellant value and great for city driving

Faults:

I had to have the starter motor replaced after 39,000 miles.

General Comments:

The Perodua Kancil is sold in the UK as the Perodua Nippa. It was very cheap brand new. It gets fantastic petrol mileage. It is great for driving around town, but on the motorway the limitations do show. Spare parts are expensive if anything does go wrong and 99% of mechanics have never heard of them.

1999 Perodua Kancil 660EX 660cc from Malaysia

Summary:

Low maintenance and high on reliability

Faults:

Generally, this car seems to be a nice package as a whole; considering the fact that it's only powered by a 3 cylinder 660cc engine, I didn't expect road-burning performance. Built quality is very much better than what I would've expected, reliability is superb for a car priced so low. Two areas that I would like to see some improvement in, though. First will be the design of the suspension system, being to hard for comfort. Secondly, the brakes. Having small engine doesn't mean it wouldn't go fast...

General Comments:

My Kancil actually topped 150km/h in standard condition! (don't try this, though! hahaha...) I've changed the front discs to the Japanese L500 item (12" VENTILATED disc with model 2003-type calipers) and solved my braking problems once and for all! As for the suspension, I still can't find a better set as all the after market parts seem to have this inherent problem of being too hard.

2002 Perodua Kancil EX850 from Malaysia

Summary:

Is a cheap car with all the cheap stuff!

Faults:

All build up with cheap stuff. Low quality audio system, cheap seats, Ultra cheap & low quality remote alarm. Nothing is good in it!

General Comments:

If it was not because of Kancil was the cheapest car in Malaysia (I mean new 1st hand car) RM28K++. I will not even think about buying it!

If I know early, I will rather get a 2nd hand car than buying the stupid made in Malaysia car- Kancil.

If I get rich someday, I will not buy any car made from Malaysia. It is not worth to buy local made cars and 100% no value for your money!!!

To me, the question of buying or not buying is not solely depend on whether it is `cheap material made' nor `expensive material made'. Look at Volvo. Though it is deem to be one of the expensive car, you can still see it parked at Junk Centre. The same applies to Mercedes, Alfa, Ford etc.

Try to evaluate positively by many factors. Don't simply because you can't afford to buy an expensive one, you easily condemn the other one. Very poor commenter.
