1994 Peugeot 306 S16 2.0 16v petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Excellent performance throughout!

Faults:

Binding rear break callipers causing discs to warp, new discs and callipers fitted.

CAT collapsed & blocked exhaust causing damage to the cylinder head! Not a cheap repair (won't happen again - De-cat system from Peugeot Sport fitted).

Eats tyres and front break pads.

Intermittently operating rev counter located quickly (for once) to a poor connection by the local dealer.

Fuel tank air locking, causing no more than about £15 of fuel at a time to be added to the tank - yet to be cured!!

General Comments:

Excellent handling, acceleration, and braking.

Real head turner, stunning styling.

Superb interior design and a good rate of wear - no real loss in condition apart from a slightly faded carpet. The seats still hold you in tight no matter how hard you throw it about!

Excellent fun to drive.

Poor fuel consumption.

Major engine work not cheap (but then is any?)

Serviceing not cheap & fault finding proves to be a nightmare for anyone.

Eats through tyres a bit too quick for my wallets liking.

1994 Peugeot 306 XND 1.9 diesel from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Cheap to run

Faults:

Oil leak due to the head gasket going and the light does not always come on when opening the door.

General Comments:

Good all round car, easy to drive, comfy and spacious for a small car.

Not really aged over the years, still a good looking car.

A reliable car

Faults:

The radio is always turning off and remains off until it will eventually allow me put the code back in.

It always starst no matter how cold or wet it is.

Road handling is excellent.

Small car, but big enough to eliminate the anti small car attitude on the road.

It heats up in no time.

1994 Peugeot 306 XN 1.4 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Fun and cheap

Faults:

Nothing major.

Exhaust falls off every 30,000.

Increasing rattles but then again the car is no spring chicken. Fine if you get a good service every 10,000 miles.

General Comments:

Cheap to run, well built and more spacious inside than it looks. Looks cute too.

Much better than a Ford or Vauxhall equivalent small family car. Great ride and sharp handling (for the money that is).

On the downside the build quality is sound, but not great - the switchgear seems to be falling apart on mine. Also my car, being a 1.4, sounds a bit rough at speed.

1994 Peugeot 306 S16 2.0 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A real corker!

Faults:

Since new:

Exploding sunroof.

Oxygen sensor.

Knock sensor.

Speed sensor.

Front shocks.

Exhaust.

Radiator.

Coils.

Track rod end.

Link arms for the anti roll bar.

ECU replaced as part of the coils going saga.

Leak into drivers side footwell.

Noise from poor fitting door seals on the passenger side.

Regularly needs new tyres, brake discs and pads.

Most recent seems to be a problem with a diaphragm in the engine.

Not easy to pinpoint faults on this car if they can't find it on the ECUcar at the dealers.

General Comments:

Love the car - fun and good to look at. A real head turner. Not cheap to run but who cares!

Just wish the dealers could sort it out when things go wrong!

1994 Peugeot 306 S16 2.0 16V petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A flawed diamond

Faults:

Dipstick blown out at high revs (suspect pressure build up in sump), indicator relay clicks constantly, replacement exhaust, wheel bearing replaced, two condensers needed replacing, very heavy clutch feel.

General Comments:

Despite all its faults I'm still going to keep the car as it has provided more smiles per mile than any other to date. Grip and handling are both excellent and once the engine gets over 4000rpm it flies. It's a pity that it goes through tyres and brake pads so quickly.
