1995 Peugeot 306 D Turbo 1.9 diesel turbo from UK and Ireland

Summary:

So nearly as much fun as a mini!

Faults:

Since 2001

New disk brakes 2002 at 100,000 miles.

New battery 2003 at 110,000.

New power steering unit from last MOT.

New Sony in car stereo as old one lost the code for.

General Comments:

This car has been the most reliable and the most fun to drive since my last Mini was.

I will never buy another a petrol engine ever again after driving this car, it's a joy to drive at any speed, handles likn a dream evem with standard suspension setup.

This car is so nearly as much fun to drive as my beloved Mini, and that is saying something I can tell you.

For a diesel it leaves most petrol standing at the lights and with room on the pedal to spare.

Motorway driving is a dream 80mph at 3000 rpm nice and relaxed all round and room to spare will do 110mph at a push, but 80-90 mph keeps the fuel cost down, I get about 50 mpg from normal usage and a little bit of traffic light blasting :o) if you know what I mean.

This car has been the most reliable car I have ever owned pass the first MOT I had th car, with flying colours only the power steering was a problem 2nd MOT (200.

My car is in ferrai red, 3 door, but without alloys, but still look better than most new cars I've seen lately. Its still looking good 10 years on and still get people asking me to sell it to them (even on holiday).

If you ever test drive this car you will get a big smile as soon as you turn the key.

1995 Peugeot 306 D Turbo 1.9 turbo diesel from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Comfortable, fast and economical

Faults:

The seats have started to wear a little. Some of the instrument illumination lights in the dashboard have gone out. The speedo needle vibrates a little at anything above 50 mph and both the remote control key fobs have broken. Also, the wiring in the doors has broken due too bad design resulting in failure of the central locking which meant hours of patching it back up again. Apart from that, nothing really apart from general stuff like wishbone bushes, track rod ends, etc.

General Comments:

For its age, this is an outstanding car. It handles like a dream and the insurance is unusually reasonable (group 5). It's quick off the mark and handles motorways fine. Mine has done 113,000 miles and the engine is still like new. The electrics are a bit cheap, but that's a general problem with Peugeot's. Generally, running costs are low. It's still on its first set of brake disks and is mechanically sound apart from a rear axle bush which needs replacing. I do a lot of the servicing work myself and have found the main dealer to be extremely helpful and have found geniune parts to be a lot cheaper than from other car manufacturers.

1995 Peugeot 306 XS 1.6 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Cheap and cheerful, but fast and practical

Faults:

Clutch and gearbox at 55000 miles.

Shock absorbers at the rear.

Rear semi trailing arm suspension mountings both wore out in the last 10,000 miles.

Otherwise general items of wear and tear.

General Comments:

Notchy gearbox can be annoying.

Brakes are inconsistent in the wet.

Rear of the car tends to break away going round wet corners, although this can make driving even more exciting.

Fast for a 1.6 90hp engine, very comfortable even for me (I'm 6' 3") but to be this comfortable you must have a sunroof!!

Economical and cheap to insure.
