2000 Peugeot 306 LX 1.4 from UK and Ireland
Summary:
In short - great car when running, but an absolute pain when it breaks (again)
Faults:
First thing to go wrong was the after sales service from the dealer - so bad that my wife still refuses to have any dealings with them!! Could be a one off.
Then the air conditioning packed in, was not critical by any means, hardly used it being a permanently freezing Scot anyway.
A year into my ownership the Alternator packed in.
Recently the rear wiper motor gave up the ghost, as did the rear wiring loom.
General Comments:
Alright to drive, seems to have a dead point in the acceleration, as ratio of gears between first and second gear does not seem consistent.
Great for driving in the motorway, but not nice if you're driving in town.
No Haynes manual ever written for this model!
Comedy under-steer, but thankfully not as bad as the Smart!!
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? No

I have got a 306 xsi 2.0 8v and I had the stalling problem you have got. turned out to be a lamba sensor that was not putting enough oxygen in the fuel mix causing it to stall. get that checked, should sort it out.
