2002 Peugeot 307 XSE 2.0L from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Real value for money, has almost every option that's required for the Serious driver

Faults:

Intermittent fault in Sunroof. It will not close when switched to close. Doesn't close in either Pop up or Slide In/Out mode. Unit closes, then reverts to it's preyious open setting. Only way to close unit is to Stop vehicle then activate close switch.

Slight shuddering felt through brake pedal as brakes are applied.

Cruise control activates at approx 65km/hr. Way too high, as opposed to 40km/hr in my Mitsubishi Galant.

General Comments:

Cornering ability is fantastic. Very little roll. Automatic wiper control is a real boon, same with automatic headlights.

2002 Peugeot 307 XSE 2.0L from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Value for money with all the options you could want

Faults:

Intermittent fault with sunroof. Sunroof will not close whilst driving. Doesn't matter if sunroof is in slide back or pop up position. Upon trying to close the sunroof it will close, then revert to its original opened position. One interesting point was mentioned by service manager that around Australia, approx. nine models the same as mine, had been reported as faulty.

Very frustrating as I have been to two separate dealers and both have been unable to rectify the fault. The drive motor has been replaced, but still to no avail. I've completed a customer service survey and as yet have not had a reply or reason for the fault.

General Comments:

The cornering ability is fantastic, It holds onto the road very well and has very little roll.

Fuel economy is impressive. The best that I have been able to achieve so far is 722 kms on a country drive and approx. 600 kms in city driving.

For the number of 307s sold here it would be nice to have the speedometer calibrated in increments of 20 not 30 km/h.

2002 Peugeot 307 LX 1.4 hdi from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Too many niggling faults

Faults:

Load of minor faults including indicators coming on by themselves rear door jamming shut etc. Latest is a worn bush on the shock absorber assembly causing a clunk when you turn right. Told by dealer that there is a recall on this model and it needs a new camshaft. More inconvenience.

General Comments:

Car is comfortable roomy and rides well, cheap to run, but not as good on fuel as peugeot claim. Its just been slapped together though without much care or thought. Will never buy a car made in a French factory again.

I have a 03 plate 307 LX which has developed a " clonk " on what seems to be the right side at low speeds especially when turning right, any other comments on this problem?.

2002 Peugeot 307 Rapier 1.6 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Annoying transmission squeak, but nice to drive

Faults:

Main problem has been a "whining" or squeaking sound from the transmission. More noticeable in 1st, 2nd and 3rd. It has been to 2 seperate dealers about this. The first claimed Peugeot were aware of this and were looking into it and I would have to put up with it in the meantime. The second dealer (4 months later) said the same, but assured me that they should here something in the next few months as to a solution. It is very annoying and loud (even outside of the car - it sounds like a transit that's done 190k miles!!). I plan to change it in a few months, but have no idea how I am going to sell it sounding like that.

Had problem with exhaust rattle at about 2500rpm, but dealer fixed that and so far so good.

Various creaks, mainly from passenger seat, stereo housing and passenger sun visor (!!).

Stereo, although it sounds good, does not hold the radio stations stored in it.

General Comments:

If it wasn't for the transmission noise I would happily live with the other problems as they are fairly insignificant, but at the moment I am not happy with the car or the after-sales service.

I can't knock it for comfort and in some respects the build quality and quality of materials is very good.
