2004 Peugeot 807 LX 2.0 TD from UK and Ireland

Summary:

If you must choose this, get a higher spec model

Faults:

Nothing yet.

General Comments:

This car requires thrashing through the gears to make it move quickly. Noisy at 70mph, when you get there.

It has very little pull at low revs.

The small speedometer is central, to read it one's eyes must leave the road. This is a serious flaw. The wipers also don't clean a wide strip of the screen.

The seating is very basic, with little side and nil lumbar support.

I have had serious problems with my company car 807 2.0. Firstly there was a high pitch noise at motorway speeds, which took the garage numerous attempts (nearly 6 months) to find it was the windscreen. This has to be replaced only on approval from Peugeot, which took ages. The rear tires are wearing unevenly, and one tyre will have to be replaced. The garage carried out an alignment test and found that the rear settings were outside the tolerance. After 6 weeks, I am still waiting for a reply from Peugeot to see what they are going to do about this problem.. While the car was in the garage, the passenger door, front wing and front bumper were damaged. The garaged has agreed to repair the damage.

2004 Peugeot 807 HDi Executive 2.2 turbo diesel from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A great family car package

Faults:

Nothing yet, but I've only had the car for a month.

General Comments:

A very well thought out 7 seater, with a spacious versatile interior. All the rear seats can be removed, but beware - they're heavy to lift.

Performance feels strong from the 130hp 2.2 diesel engine with good torque from 1500rpm onwards - the car doesn't feel in any way underpowered. However, with low gearing on the 6-speed box you'll find yourself changing gear more often than you'd expect.

Refinement is good, with low wind and road noise. Engine is virtually silent unless you go past 3500rpm (with good low-down torque you'll rarely need to).

Suspension gives good comfort when driven sedately, but can fell a little underdamped at higher speeds. Tyres clearly more comfort-biased than grip-biased (but hey - it's not a sportscar). Rear suspension can feel "caught out" by large bumps affecting one side of the car only (a result of the beam axle no doubt).

Loads of toys (heated memory seats, cruise control etc.) but with Peugeot's below par reliability reputation, I'm not sure that I'll keep the car beyond the 3 year warranty period.
