1991 Pontiac 6000 LE 3.1 V6 from North America

Summary:

A cheap reliable car

Faults:

The front passenger side brake pads are constantly wearing down.

The seat is falling apart badly.

General Comments:

This is definitely the best car for a new driver like myself.

Its reliable and is fairly cheap.

1991 Pontiac 6000 LE 3.1 from North America

Summary:

I love mine

Faults:

Was owned by my mother, and driven on a rural mail route in Ohio.

The engine blew at 86,000 miles. Replaced it with a brand new GM Goodwrench crate motor. The first engine was way ballsier.

One of the rear brake calipers sticks.

Replaced water pump and accessory belt.

This is my 2nd 1991 6000 LE, and I really like the car. My mom had a 1997 and 2 1991's. I got both of the 1991's. She finally decided to try a different make, a Ford Taurus (yuck!!)

General Comments:

The car handles very well and accelerates quickly. It's comfortable except on very long trips (drove from Ohio to Texas in my first one, and it was very uncomfortable after a while. The front seats need to recline, if only a little.

1991 Pontiac 6000 LE 3.1 V6 from North America

Summary:

Cheap runabout with a 3.1L V6 as a bonus

Faults:

Passenger window won't open.

Rear windows operate incredibly slowly.

Has an overheating issue at the moment, just replaced the water pump myself cost me all of $20 from pep boys.

Brakes need a bit of shove to get them moving, might have to have that looked at soon.

General Comments:

One thing that struck me after I'd parted with my $600 is that apart from the small glove box, there is absolutely no where at all to put anything. No little storage areas, No Cup holders. It not a problem for me, I just thought it was strange.

The 3.1L V6 is pretty damn good, still quiet, still able to get you in trouble with the law pretty quickly, and not too thirsty.

The seats are bizarre, the split front bench seat doesn't recline, well mine don't. But they are soft enough and at a reasonable angle, so it doesn't really matter.

Body work is a little rough, bottoms of the doors are rusting slightly, and a lot of the paint is... well... just plain missing.

Suspension is suitably soft and spongy for a car of this age, but it copes with Bostons pot holes very well.

Despite its faults I adore this car, my girlfriend is not that impressed, but what does she know :-)

Man, what you wrote about your car is describing my car perfectly. No storage or cup holders, no reclining seats, rusting door panels. But the engine is pretty good and for a 1991 it runs like a car 5 years newer.

I have a '90 6000 LE. When I first got it I didn't think the seats reclined. When I was working under the dash one day I noticed a switch on the front corner of the bench seat. Turns out there's one at the front corner of the drivers and passenger side. They tilt the seats back. You might not feel them if you just reach down there because they're inset, but if you look you'll see them. Unfortunately for my passengers the passenger side doesn't work, but mine does :)

Cheers.

Hey,

I just bought my Pontiac 6000 about 3 weeks ago. I can't agree more with the reviews you all have given it. I was wondering however how you went about replacing your water pump. My water pump locked up and I am stuck at college with minimal resources (money) to get it fixed. I did some checking and I can get Valucraft Re-man for 13.00 and the core is worth 5.00. Anyway if you could email me personally that would be great. bjbernier@usieagles.org

Thanks,

Brandon.

1991 Pontiac 6000 LE 3.1 fuel injected V6 from North America

Summary:

More bang for your buck

Faults:

Had to have just about the whole right side sheet metal replaced after someone sideswiped it.

Front passenger tire keeps going low for some reason.

Muffler has a rust hole in it, makes it sound like there's a glass pack muffler on it now.

Gas pedal is too soft.

General Comments:

The car has extremely good power in it.

It likes to drive just about anywhere, pavement, gravel, snow, dirt.

I've gotten it up to about 110 Mph before (got clocked by a cop on the freeway, very nasty ticket).

The car is white, so it gets dirty very easily.

I really like the car, if it had wings, I'd swear it'd fly.

I have a Pontiac 6000 and I have been looking for a Pontiac 6000LE for a long time. They are great cars. My car has had a rough life, but I still like it. But I need a newer car. my car's odometer has gone around twice from going out of state and back 4 times. I wrecked it on a jeep trial once and the muffler fell off pips and all. It was as loud as a mud truck.
