2001 Pontiac Aztek from North America

Summary:

Ugly, but best car I have ever owned

Faults:

Only issues have been... well, I haven't had any.

This car has cost me NOTHING except brakes, tires and oil changes.

General Comments:

This car, though it is extremely ugly, is the best and most reliable vehicle I have ever owned. It has ONLY cost me tires, brakes and oil changes.

Leather interior has stood the test of time, except for a small tear in the driver's arm rest.

This car has survived 11 years without a garage, and has absolutely NO rust. It has survived 2 adults, 2 children, a Saint Bernard and a Rottweiler, and has overcome the elements, if you know what I mean.

The car has NEVER had any mechanical concerns at all.

Again, if you can get close enough to get into one, you will find it to be the best ride due to its wide wheel base and very roomy interior... It's only ugly on the outside.

Would love to keep it, but my job required a lot of travel, and I need to have a back-up plan. However, if the car were to make it to the top of a hill and explode, I will bury it knowing that I got more than my money's worth out of this Aztek.

Another plus to driving an ugly car is not having to worry about it being stolen - LOL!

2001 Pontiac Aztek GT 3.4 from North America

Summary:

Ugly, but overall a very useful and reliable vehicle!

Faults:

The wife and I had bought a 2001 Pontiac Aztek and loved it so much, we bought another one (the first one is about to roll 201,000mi and is still as good as it was on day 1).

The new one though, is another story. We bought it with 98500mi and in the last 60,000 I've had to repair the torque converter clutch solenoid & trans pump control solenoid ($350 @ shop), outer tie rods ($40), ignition switch ($40) and now the BCM ($125) is bad.

The dash lights & gauges and the exterior lighting go off, then come back on and the dash looks just like it did when you started it.

The hatch doesn't open completely when you hit the button on the fob or the one in the dash. I shouldn't complain too much, overall it's done REALLY well for the mileage it has.

It has the "delaminating" on the rear taillights, the tie downs in the back have broken (they're plastic), and the battery and the thermostat are "joys" to replace (and yes, with some patience, you CAN change the thermostat without removing the exhaust crossover!)

General Comments:

Both of my Azteks handle well, drive and run well, and are very versatile cars. Mine is a base model, hers is everything except AWD. Great little cars, but can be time consuming to fix and expensive to fix if you're not brave enough to do it yourself.

It's ugly, but very functional. Just wishing they could've made the interior/or dash a little more inviting.

2001 Pontiac Aztek 3.4L from North America

Summary:

Good utility, disappointing reliability

Faults:

Intake manifold gasket leak @ 75,000 miles.

Tie rod ends (both sides) @ 75,000 miles.

Automatic door locks non-functional, blown fuse @ 50,000 miles.

Cabin lights non-functional, blown fuse @ 50,000 miles.

General Comments:

Interior is comfortable spacious and seems to be wearing well.

Car has good power for it's size and type.

Handles well.

Sheet metal is kinda flimsy, I bumped the front fender with my hip and dented it.

Electrical problems are a nightmare and the added intake manifold gasket issue is enough to make me not want to buy one of these again, even if it was still available. I would definitely NOT buy one used again.

2001 Pontiac Aztek V6 from North America

Summary:

Wish we had bought two

Faults:

Warranty replacement of stereo @50,000 miles.

Warranty replacement of timing chain @ 69,000 miles.

Replaced driver's window/lock control switch @71,000 miles.

General Comments:

Very stable, handles well, good acceleration, always feels in control and solid. Excellent "snow" car. (front wheel drive with studs)

Great exterior visibility and an outstanding set of mirrors. Can tow as much as a short wheel base pickup.

Very comfortable cabin. With rear seats removed it has as much cargo capacity as a short bed pickup.

Excellent fuel mileage for size and weight of vehicle, 19-25 mpg.
