1997 Pontiac Bonneville SE 3..8 from North America

Summary:

Pontiac paper weight!!!

Faults:

At 37,000 miles had to replace the water pump!

At 39,000 miles had two oil leaks, rear main seal, oil pan was warped!!!! Cost of 742.56$$$$, called the dealer, told me out of warranty, had to pay for the repair myself. Atill fighting with GM about bill!!!!!

Now the car is using oil at about the rate of half a quart every 500 miles, and now the fuel pump is making very loud noises!!!!! Does anyone else have any problems!!!!!!

General Comments:

Will never buy another GM product again!!! Why doesn't GM back the cars like our foreign counter parts.....!!!!!!!!!

Maybe you just got a lemon... My mom just bought a new Bonneville with 0 problems, her first car was a '65 Pontiac that we still have and it runs perfect. I would take an American car over a foreign car anyday.. you can blame the problem on Chevy since Pontiacs have Chevy engines in them now.. that's why they are going downhill...

1997 Pontiac Bonneville SSEi 3.8 from North America

Summary:

Has proven to be a poor choice

Faults:

Transmission being replaced.

General Comments:

Find this car to be very disappointing - only 40,000 miles & the transmission has to be replaced. Car has been well taken care of and fully maintained - this is not acceptable.

I have a 97 Bonneville as well, and it just got towed away to have the transmission replaced. The gas gauge has been broken since I first got it, the water pump has been replaced, brake lines and pads twice, and the serpentine belt. I agree that it is a very costly car to own in regards to repairs.
