2005 Pontiac Bonneville GXP 4.6 V8 from North America

Summary:

Junk

Faults:

This car was plagued with problems from brand new, and they continue to this day. Do not purchase a GM product. After having several, I got disgusted and started buying Fords. After hearing that GM had fixed their problems, I bought this car brand new, and loved it. It did not take long to realize that this is the worst car that I have ever had! Complete junk! Now GM is claiming to have fixed their problems again, beware!

Starter went bad.

Intake crossover gaskets leak, that's what I think killed the starter.

Power steering lines developed a leak and were spraying fluid everywhere. The pump also went bad.

Front bearings and hubs went bad.

Water pump went bad.

Easily breaks engine & transmission mounts.

Oil cooler lines & valve cover gaskets leak.

Gauges do not work.

Interior floor in back seat fills with water.

Radio lights burned out.

Driver control center went bad.

Continuously blows fog lamps and headlights. Has been rewired with new upgraded harnesses and wiring by dealer, but lights continue to blow.

Seat heater fried.

Blower motor fried.

Side cladding pops loose. Is simply held on with two sided tape.

General Comments:

This car is very tempting. Very fast with Northstar V8. Looks sexy too.

Don't be fooled. You will regret your purchase.

Not everyone's experience is like yours. I have never had anything but GM products since '01, and they have all been very reliable. I have had 1 Chevy, and currently am on my 4th Buick (which I have only had for a few weeks). I will admit I don't put a lot of miles on my cars (usually under 35,000 miles), but the first 2 cars had over 100,000 miles when I got them. I have never had a major engine or transmission issue with any of them, and really like the styling and comfort of GM products, especially when compared to more popular import makes.

2005 Pontiac Bonneville GXP V8 Northstar from North America

Summary:

Best luxury car for your money

Faults:

Replaced the stock front rotors and pads for some better ones that stop faster and don't warp at 50,000 miles.

Needs new wheel bearings at 77,000.

General Comments:

This car is the perfect cross between comfort, luxury and sport. I have friends with BMW's who don't have anywhere near all the options my car has. It will cruise all day long at 85-90 mph and still get 24-26 mpg.

In town driving hurts your gas mileage, but I love my car. It is fully loaded, including leather and suede seats.

The car will handle like a dream at 125 mph (only did it once) but I wouldn't go any faster than that. One gentleman said he did 138 mph but I don't know that for a fact. I would DEFINITELY buy one of these again.

I have an '05 Bonneville GXP, and it is an amazing automobile. I had my car up to 130 miles per hour, without even trying... and the only reason I stopped there was because I was afraid of getting a nasty ticket. Not sure how high I could have gone. I will never appreciate a car as much as this one!

2005 Pontiac Bonneville SLE 3.8 V6 from North America

Summary:

I hate it with a passion

Faults:

I have a 2005 Pontiac Bonneville SLE. This version is right under the GXP fully loaded.

The air ride the works well.

When the car was first bought by an older couple, at around 10000 miles the brakes went out, and the calipers were replaced. They went out about 29000 miles again, only this time I found out that the brake pads were shattering and falling out. I just about wrecked the car when it would not STOP.

Also, the master cylinder went out, and I also had a problem with the lower intake gasket when it started leaking antifreeze; had that fixed, and after the dealer fixed the leak, the gas mileage went down about 10 MPG; went from 32 to about 22 MPG, this is crazy.

Now the oil is stuck on 120 psi.

Had the tire pressure lie and say the tire pressure was low, but the tires were fine.

Speedometer wasn't fully reseting.

Transmission shifting in and out of lockup rapidly, and sometimes not even shifting at all into overdrive.

Water pump is going out with 36300 miles.

I fully maintain my car, and this is getting crazy. I paid too much for the car to start with, and the warranty just ran out at 36000. Now the problems are getting worse. I think GM should put a recall out on this car, because the way it's going now, and from what I read in here, I will never own another one.

General Comments:

I'm not big on GM cars and trucks, I just thought I would give them another shot, but it still shows how problems keep coming around with GM.

When you let the car sit, as I am sure the old couple did, the brake master cylinders always fail, and the cracked brakes and such are due also to it sitting for extended periods of time. This is not just attributed to one car.

Brake pads shattering? I really doubt it, seeing as they are metal backed ceramic/metallic material. Sounds like your mechanic is taking YOU for a ride.

14th Apr 2011, 00:05

The brake pads will fail in most cases if the car was sitting for a long period of time, this is a fact for all makes of automobiles.

Mine shattered with %25-30 life left.

All four front pads.

Like that when I got it.

I had replaced brake pads delaminate in 2000 miles on my 2010 Ford. Had them replaced.
