That electric motor noise is your load leveling suspension pump kicking on to level the car. From what I have researched all models come with this.

Original poster here, car is now up to 35,000 miles & all paid off, and had to have the A/C compressor replaced today... thank goodness for extended warranty or it would have been around $800 to fix. This thing has had A/C issues since I got it new!
Driver's seat seems to be getting harder as I have been driving it more, like the foam is breaking down or something, because the old beater (89 Bonneville) finally quit. The lumbar adjustment only adjusts half the seat, was fixed, but seems like it's doing it again.
Developed a rattle in the dash that no one can find, I just turn up the radio, love the XM. Been fine other than that.
I know this may seem picky, but this was an expensive car new, & now that I drive it all the time, it seems like stuff is breaking before it should... it's kind of a love hate relationship. Thank goodness for the GM extended warranty and the good dealership (I know, hard to believe, but they are all veteran mechanics and I've never had to take it back twice for anything till the A/C issue again, but hopefully the compressor fixes that) I take it too. Everything was covered and at no cost to me, even the pesky dash rattle no one can find. So hopefully this is it for awhile, I have 2.5 years of extended warranty left so if it's good I'll keep it, if it keeps breaking, it's gone...

I bought a 2005 Bonneville in the fall of 2006, trading in a 1992. I too missed the roomier back seat. While the '92 shared a chassis with the Buick LaSabre and Oldsmobile 88, this 2005 seems to share the Oldsmobile Aurora chassis with the shorter back seat area.
I'm still trying to figure out that electric motor sound at the right, rear that runs when first starting the car or backing it into the garage.
