1995 Pontiac Grand Am SE 6 cylinder from North America

Summary:

This car has been a very good car

Faults:

I had some transmission work done about three years ago. Mileage was over 140,000. The driver's side window motor has been replaced once, and needs replaced again. I'm also getting ready to replace the serpentine belt for the second time, to be expected with the high mileage. About $100 a year in repairs.

General Comments:

I have been very pleased with this car. But I have never like the seats. Not designed for the short person. I really need a seat that has a straight back vs concave. I have maintained the car by getting regular oil changes etc. My husband wants to make it a permanent convertible when I get my next car. We figure although this one will have no trade in or sales value left, it will still be running like a top... but without one.

1995 Pontiac Grand Am GT Coupe 3.1 3.1 from North America

Summary:

Average car, GT Coupe sporty looks good drives average

Faults:

Just like everybody else, window problems. Rolls up an inch... wait... inch... wait. Faulty window motor. I was told those were like $500 to replace. Had both control arm bushings in front replaced at about 90k. (Detroit potholes aren't helping either) Heater core replaced about 140k, antifreeze leaked heavily cost $400. More recently, PCV Harness assewmbly at 160k cuz it was idling very high. Now I'm told my EGR valve is going bad which is why sometimes when I accelerate, it putters and takes about 100 feet or so to get going. I can't afford the $400.00 right now to fix it, but will do so in the near future. Service engine ligh comes off and on cuz of the EGR valve ($400 to fix) I like the body and design of the Grand Am. I've CERTAINLY got my moneys worth out of it. Main seal is also leaking very small amount. Not a very smooth ride over the bumps.

General Comments:

Like the design of the 2door GT Coupe. Fell in love with the dark forest-green color at the lot. Would probably stick to a Pontiac as long as it's a newer model.

1995 Pontiac Grand Am GT 3.1 V6 from North America

Summary:

Not a car I'd suggest to anybody that needs something dependable

Faults:

Transmission had to be rebuilt.

Brake lines had to be replaced.

Fuel pump had to be replaced.

Driver's side window motor had to be replaced.

Headlight/Cruise control switch had to be replaced.

A/C knobs broke.

Radiator hose had to be replaced.

General Comments:

This car is both comfortable and powerful. However, too many mechanical failures have made it a rather expensive car to maintain.

1995 Pontiac Grand Am SE 2.3 QUAD 4 from North America

Summary:

Marvelous

Faults:

My paint job on the hood faded slightly in 2003.

Replaced carpet due to wear.

Blown head gasket just recently.

General Comments:

I love this car. I have never had any real major issues until the head gasket cracked. I drove this car from Florida to Chicago and anywhere I could. Bought new. Drove like a dream and a great gas saver. This car is my baby. I loved the way it handled the road in sun and ice and it never put me down on the side of the road. Even though people hate the Quad 4. This car has been extremely good to me!

1995 Pontiac Grand Am SE Quad 4 from North America

Summary:

It's a lot of hassle keeping up with the repairs.

Faults:

I had to put in a new alternator, and the water pump needs to be replaced. It also needs a new thermostat. There is also a sound that it makes when I turn it on. When I put on the air conditioner the sound just gets louder, and it sounds like a noisy lawn mower. The blinkers don't always work.

General Comments:

This car was in good shape when I first bought it. Now the problems are starting up. Does anyone even know where the thermostat is located? My husband seems to be having a hard time locating it. I hope everyone out there inspects a car very thorough before you go out and by one of these Grand Am's. You have my sympathy.
