1999 Pontiac Grand Am SE 3.4L V6 from North America

Summary:

This is the best car ever!

Faults:

The brakes and rotors have had to be replaced once.

The alternator has had to be replaced once.

General Comments:

I think that these cars are one of the best. This has been one of the best cars I have ever owned or driven before.

This car has also saved my life and some of my friends lives.

Like when I was rear ended, I was smashed in between a car and a truck. No one was hurt, but my car was almost totaled.

When I hydroplaned I did two donuts in the middle of the road, a nose dive into a ditch, two more donuts in the field, and another nose dive into the ditch again. The only thing that was wrong was I had a huge dent in the front bumper, and that happened in May, and my car is still driving like new.

The inside is very roomy and comfortable.

1999 Pontiac Grand Am GT 3.4 Litre V6 Ram Air from North America

Summary:

Still a great bang for the buck!!!

Faults:

The rear back-up lights fill with dirt.

Turn signal switch shorted out.

Constant and excessive highway vibrations.

General Comments:

This car is really a great running car. I just wish the wheels/tires would not vibrate. I have had the dealer and numerous tire/wheel shops balance the tires and they still vibrate on the highway. This severely diminishes the driving enjoyment of this car. The dealer states there is nothing wrong with the wheels, but the wheel shops state that the wheels are out of round. The dealer denies this of course!!!

The turn signal switch was replaced under warranty.

The back-up lights were replaced under warranty.

I can deal with warranty repairs, but the car is now out of warranty. I have read other posts on this site, and I don't get a good feeling about this car. I have two more years to pay for this car and I hope I don't have some of the problems I have read about thus far. If I do, it will be a Honda Accord EX V6 Coupe time.

1999 Pontiac Grand Am GT 3.4 V6 High Output from North America

Summary:

An overall good sporty car for the money

Faults:

I have a few small problems with the car. I have had to replace and re-grind the rotors. I am having a noise coming from the front wheels and I think it is the rotors again.

The resistor in the fan blower went out once.

Overall I have had no serious problems.

General Comments:

For the money you get a lot of car. It rides really nice and can keep up and beat most cars performance wise.

I hope Pontiac will fix the brakes and rotor problems, because I have heard a lot of complaints about those.

Ditto your comments. I have a 1999 G/A SE and have had the same problems. Please note, however, that after many trips to the dealer concerning the noise in the brake (rotors), much to my surprise, I was told it was faulty Goodyear Tires. This was after I had the car for nearly three years.

Three years and eight months later, with 59,000 klms on the car, dealer just today installed a brand new set of Goodyear Eagles on my car. Guess what, noise is finally gone. Been there since 7,000 klms. Amazing huh!

Frank.

1999 Pontiac Grand Am SE2 3.4L V6 from North America

Summary:

A total piece of overpriced garbage

Faults:

Brakes at 8,000, 15,000 and 18,500 (warranty).

Total coolant loss (4 times) stranded me 4 miles from the closest town and I had to walk.

Windows leak on doors, flooding floor (4 times).

Sill plate came off on the passenger side.

Paint has spots (white paint).

Engine needed new heads at 22,000.

Noisy engine (sounds like a diesel). The dealer said it was carbon build-up, but could not correct the problem.

Stereo replaced twice.

Power steering noisy, even after TSB repairs.

Smells like antifreeze and gas when cold.

Idles rough.

Fabric on seats "molting".

Rubbing noise from the front drive axle that the dealer says is "normal".

Leather on steering wheel coming loose.

Transmission oil pan leaking.

General Comments:

I would hope that anyone with a brain should not even consider this, nor any GM product for the rest of their life. I have been treated like dirt by everyone associated with the dealers, and GM corporate. I have had cars I paid $100 for that were more dependable than this thing!

I have a 1999 Grand Am and it has had 7 sets of rotors on it in two years, the leather on the doors under the windows are bubbled up terribly and I have had no luck getting this to be announced as a lemon, which it is, or having this piece of crap taken back. I have good relations with the dealership, but the manufacturer and BBB haven't helped me at all.
