2000 Pontiac Grand Am GT1 V6 from North America

Summary:

More reliable than my Honda Accord!

Faults:

In the almost four years that I have owed my Grand Am I have had not one single problem with the car. Not one. It still looks and runs like brand new!

This is by far the best car I have ever owned.

General Comments:

I was told before I bought the car "Don't buy a Grand Am, you will regret it!" "Buy a Honda or a Toyota, they run FOREVER!" Whatever! This is not true and I know this for a fact because I also own a 1999 Honda Accord Ex coupe that has only 102,000 miles, it has the Vtec 4 with a 5 speed. I love the gas miles, but the car is made so cheap. Everything is falling off or apart. I have had this car in the shop 3 times over the past six months and have spent over $2,300 on repairs. The car was well taken care of and I have all the records to prove it. Now the Honda just sits in my drive because I'm too afraid something else will go wrong with it. I will keep driving my Pontiac because I know that even with the high miles, it will get me where I need to go and won't let me down like the Honda has many times.

2000 Pontiac Grand Am SE 4 cylinder from North America

Summary:

Good

Faults:

Coolant leak, tail light, radio...

General Comments:

I have 211,000.00 miles on this baby, and she's still going. She's just started a coolant leak somewhere (external of the engine), but pretty reliable since we bought the car.

Routine maintenance (I like to call it preventive maintenance) is the key.

2000 Pontiac Grand Am SE 4.3 from North America

Summary:

My second Grand Am and my last GM product

Faults:

Just like the last Grand Am that I bought (1985) this one looked like a lot of car for the money. Good looks, sport sedan styling and lots of good options for the price. However, after the car reached the age of 5 years, or around 85,000 miles repairs have been astronomical. On my '85 model, it would have been cheaper to have replaced the entire drive train all at once rather than piecemeal. The 2000 has had similar problems: recently a $1700 repair due to faulty "sensors",whatever that means. Drivers side window and passenger side rear window regulator replacement. Faulty fuel pressure regulator ($300), leaking head gasket ($600),drivers seat back will only lock in positions that do not suit me, cruise control does not work (about 6 mos. ago). Now (9/6/07) the blower motor has crapped out and we have A/C only when the car is going fast enough to force air in through the vent system. All in all not a bad car if you only plan to keep it for 1-3 years. After that, let the buyer beware. By the way, my brother-in-law has a '99 and is pretty much in the same type of situation.

General Comments:

Good deal as far as options per $ if you only keep it for 1-3 yrs.

Mine is fully equipped, all elec. windows, locks, seats; sun/moon roof, nice CD/stereo, cruise, and @ 10,500 I got it at 1/2 sticker price @2yrs. old.

One of the worst deals I ever got; repairs and inconvienience have assured that I will never buy another GM vehicle.

My wife drives the grand am; I drive a '98 Ford Ranger (4-cyl.) that since it was new has needed 2 sets of tires, an alternator and a serpentine belt...period. It is @ 187,000 miles. Nu-ff said.

2000 Pontiac Grand Am from North America

Summary:

A waste of money

Faults:

We just lost the second engine on this vehicle.

General Comments:

I had hoped that after the fiasco of the Quad Four GM would have learned how to make a durable 4 cylinder engine. I guess their still incompetent losers.

2000 Pontiac Grand Am GT 3.4 from North America

Summary:

A great car for the money and power you receive.

Faults:

I have had no real problems with the car. Owned it for 5+ yrs. I have put 100,000 miles on it. You will have the normal wear and tear. The only thing I had to get replaced was the intake manifold gasket. Only set me back $350 because of labor costs.

General Comments:

This car was a step up in power from my Sunfire GT. The Ram Air kicks in around the 3-4K RPM mark and takes off. No problem passing on the highway or leaving the pack behind at a red light.

Maintained at local dealer for brakes and oil changes. Not pricey at all. All work has a warranty as well. Good way to go.

I have owned many Pontiac's; Sunbird, Sunfire GT, and the Grand Am GT. Going to be sad getting rid of it. Would buy another Pontiac in a second.
