2000 Pontiac Grand Am GT Ram Air V6 from North America

Summary:

This is a sporty, fairly reliable car that can fit on a smaller budget

Faults:

New tires, brakes, battery at around 55,000 miles.

In 2005, the driver's side power window is stuck all the way up, driver's size power lock shorts out, the turn signals short out, the hazard lights short out, and I had to reattach the rear view mirror to the windshield because it fell off. Also, the volume knob on the factory radio seems to have issues sometimes.

Starting to notice some road shimmy even with newer tires, especially around 50-60mph.

The air vents are strange, its hard to get them to stay pointing at you because they spin.

General Comments:

Great body style, love the shiny wheels and spoiler.

No problems with the sunroof at all.

Decent stereo sound, CD player and radio work great, except for a problem with the volume knob sometimes.

Tires are a little on the pricey side to replace because of the sporty size.

Cloth interior wears very well.

Good trunk space.

Sporty handling, quick acceleration, fun to drive.

A little road noise at times, sometimes feel the bumps in the floor and steering wheel.

Dash controls are illuminated in red, very easy on the eyes at night.

Fog lights are useless in actual fog, they just look cool.

Friendly dealer, easy to find parts.

2000 Pontiac Grand Am grand am SE 2.4L 4 cylinder from North America

Summary:

What is wrong with grand am these days

Faults:

I have had many problems with my 2000 grand am. I have put a new engine in it and a new transmission. in the first year I owned the car. I have also replaced the brakes many times and the rotors. I have had to put new tires on the car every year. I have also had to guess what my speed is because my gauges don't work. and how much gas I have. the cluster as the dealership calls it said that they can't figure out the problem and my car would be in there for at least a week. my car is a lemon. I know that when I want to sell my car I won't get anything I have put a lot of money into this car to keep running.

General Comments:

I have put a cold air intake in and a tornado. which helps with the gas these days.

2000 Pontiac Grand Am GT1 Ram Air V6 from North America

Summary:

Too many problems

Faults:

2000 Grand Am GT1:

Front window seal bad at day 4

Front brakes at 14,000 miles (includes rotors & pads)

Again at 28,000 miles

Again at 41,000 miles

Again at 74,500 miles with calipers replaced because Caliper piston went bad.

Lower intake gasket, Head gasket, Exhaust manifold gasket.

Service engine light

ABS Light

Low Coolant light

Front Wheel hubs.

General Comments:

This car is not worth the $ I paid for it. Pontiac knows all the problems & has a hard time keeping track of all the complaints. But they can tell you that it happens quite often, but GM will not issue a recall to fix the problems ahead of time. They say because the problems are "Few & far between" I have heard nothing, but the same from friends & family about the same years of Grand Am's 1999 2000 2001.

Wow... sorry to hear about your bad luck. It seems like some people have little problems with these cars and some have problems from day one.. (Monday car vs. Friday car?)

Well I just bought one and I hope that it will last me a long time.

2000 Pontiac Grand Am SE 6 cylinder from North America

Summary:

It's a repair bill waiting to happen

Faults:

Starting with the time I received it the rear brakes ceased and everything was replaced.

A sensor on the passenger side front wheel assembly went bad $450.00 then the same a month later on the driver side another $450.00.

Head gasket blew causing overheating $2500.00.

Fuel pump went bad $650.00.

Alternator burned up causing my battery to explode $500.00.

Heater/cooling blower stopped working still waiting to repair, but estimated at $400.00 repair.

Neither back window goes up or down (still waiting to repair)

Front discs warped from overheating. Still has mechanic baffled. $900.00.

General Comments:

Overall I would say I'm not impressed with Grand am and wouldn't recommend one to anyone. Funny thing is you can go on these sight and everyone has the same problems at around the same mileage points. You would think they would fix it. I had all of these problems and I'm still paying on the car!!

I also have a 1999 grand am and I am also having the overheating issues. I put another engine in and still have the same problems. as of today I have spent 1800.00 and my car is still overheating.

I had the same problem with my Grand Am GT over heating, my first instinct was that it was a fuse or relay going to the fan motor. I took it to the dealer and they said that the fuses and relays all checked fine. Then one day I turned on the air conditioner and noticed no cold air coming from the vents. I took it back to the dealer and he said that it was because the air conditioning was low on charge. Which also made my fan not turn on when supposed to causing the engine to over heat. The fan problem was fixed and I haven't had any problems with over heating since.

Great car, just a few minor problems. I had to replace 2 fuel injectors and get a new alternator. I still have to press the gas to start it, which sucks, but overall i love it.
