2000 Pontiac Grand Am 4D SE2 V6 from North America

Summary:

Love the ride, but high maintenance, dies at 100K

Faults:

Turning signal indicator goes out every 40K.

Battery should be replaced every 40K.

Power windows have to be fixed after 50K.

Power door locks have to be fixed after 50K.

Engine coolant started small leak at 50K, and had repaired at 85K.

Engine oil started small leak at 75K and is still leaking after a major repair. Causes start-idle failure every two months when it's telling me it needs a fresh quart. Spent more than the car was worth trying to fix it.

General Comments:

Love the power and the feel of driving it.

Love the styling.

Would keep it still if not for the oil leak problem.

2000 Pontiac Grand Am from North America

Summary:

Have to give it up eventually

Faults:

Wow, where can I start?

Security light has been a pain in the butt since I got this car. I had an alarm in it; took it off thinking it was the problem due to the security light, turns out this car has a mind of its own, security light starts blinking and the car won't start; weird, gotta wait until it feels like starting.

It chirps like it has an alarm when you close the door.

I have problems with the tie rods, serpentine belts, radiator issues, power steering flooding bubbling out of container, power locks lock me out, they are so weird.

To me it's a haunted car, it has a mind of its own, so many problems, always replacing or fixing something, it feels like a habit now, never ending story, costing me a lot of money, ridiculous!!!

General Comments:

It looks sporty.

When it feels like it, it will run good, other than that, a waste of money, too many deja vus with mechanics!!!

2000 Pontiac Grand Am GT1 3400SFI from North America

Summary:

I wish they still made them

Faults:

Intake manifold gasket at 150,000 miles ($250).

Tie rods @ 150,000 miles and 250,000 ($200) / ($200).

Water pump @ 120,000 miles ($120).

Wheel bearing @ 175,000 miles ($150).

Front/rear suspension @ 220,000 miles ($350).

Most of this is considered maintenance, especially on a car with 260k miles.

General Comments:

I love my car. The engine still runs very well for having such high mileage, it's cheap to fix and so much fun to drive.

Take care of your car, and it will take care of you.

I would have gone through three cars by now if I hadn't purchased this fine product.

2000 Pontiac Grand Am GT2 3.4 RAM Air from North America

Summary:

Best car I've ever driven

General Comments:

Amazing car. It's very quick for being a V6, and handles REALLY well being a FWD car. All in all, a great car for anyone.

2000 Pontiac Grand Am SE 3.4L from North America

Summary:

This car is JUNK!

Faults:

Car was 8 years old when purchased.

Initial problem with the tie rods within a week of driving it off the lot.

Next problem was the Low Traction, ABS, & Check Engine lights coming on before I ever make it out of the driveway. I can be stopped at at traffic light and the low traction light comes on if anyone in the car moves. I was told this was typical for Grand Am's and I probably had a loose wire in the traction system that was setting off the dash lights/alarms.

I believe this traction control problem was a contributing factor to an accident I had 6 months after purchasing the car. I was going around a fairly sharp curve at the recommended speed, then the car suddenly went into a 180 spin before screeching to a halt on the shoulder of the opposite side of the road.

The radio, of course, was terrible from the beginning. Cheap speakers. Had a new sound system installed (Pioneer) and it works great!

Unfortunately, I can no longer hear my new stereo because the steering has become VERY loud. The steering whines in both directions... even going straight I can faintly hear it.

General Comments:

I've owned 7 cars in my life. Two of them were new and five of them were used. Out of the five used cars, four of them were Pontiacs (1990 Sunbird LE, 1993 Sunbird GT, 2003 Grand Prix SE & currently 2000 Grand Am SE). The 2000 Grand Am SE is without a doubt the worst car I've ever owned.
