2001 Pontiac Grand Am GT V6 from North America

Summary:

Great Idea, Poorly Executed

Faults:

Check engine light on steady.

Consistent Tire/Wheel grinding noise that is infamous on Grand Ams/Aleros/etc. After many years, new tires are approved as replacements to fix this issue. Time will tell.

Radio button "black coating" eroding, with a scratched look.

Engine power reduced by about 90% for a few miles shortly after buying car. Has yet to happen again after over 30,000 more miles.

Seat belt light flickers on, even though seat belt is engaged.

General Comments:

Enjoy the style and function of the vehicle, disgusted at the quality.

Interior has been comfortable and is stylish. I agree that it is generally a "love it or hate it" type interior.

Pick up of the engine is fine for this price range and engine size.

Would prefer spring loaded mirrors.

Did not see many manual trans. available at the dealers.

2001 Pontiac Grand Am GT from North America

Summary:

Can't wait till the newer grand am models come out

Faults:

Front rotors do shake a whole lot when slowing down drastically from high speeds. I plan to get performance brakes. Besides that no other problem.

General Comments:

Love the way my baby is easy to handle. You could steer the car easily with just your finger on the wheel.

As for comfort, I got leather seating so I can't complain. Only that the levers that raises and lowers the front seats are kind of hard to use because their to stiff. Pontiac should add some more little electrical features and indoor lighting to make the car a lot more comfortable.

As for speed, this puppy's got it, and it has a lot of potential for some serious racing, but a lot of it's performance parts are pretty hard to find. But overall if you want to speed, she will do the trick.

2001 Pontiac Grand Am GT V6 from North America

Summary:

I liked my 1994 Grand AM SE better

Faults:

I've had a minor problem with the seat belt locking up; but a new part has been ordered and I expect it to be taken car of.

The sunroof really creates a low head room problem.

The spoiler makes it difficult to see out of the rear view mirror.

The major problem has been a problem with the aftermarket remote starter I had installed. (AviStart 3200) It only works intermittently and the techs at Best Buy indicate that newer Grand AM's like my 2002 model sometimes are not compatible with after market remote starters. (News to me!) I'm not sure if I'm out $300+ for this or not. Just wanted to put the word out.

General Comments:

The car looks great and handles well, with great get up and go.

I thought the price was high for what you get and didn't like that I had to buy the more expensive GT model to get the V6 engine.

I don't understand why you had to buy the more expensive GT model to get a v6. The SE1 model has the option for a v6 engine. I have one and I absolutly LOVE IT!!

2001 Pontiac Grand Am GT1 3.4 V6 from North America

Summary:

Quick car that needs new brakes

Faults:

The front brakes would pulsate when it was wet out. The rotors needed replaced two months after purchasing it. The front rotors are giving me problems again and I only have 31,000 miles on the car. The rear rotors had to be turned at 22,000 miles because they glazed over.

General Comments:

This is a very nice looking car, but the brakes are pitiful. Pontiac has to step up and make a recall on this problem. I see a lot of other owners listing this as a problem also.

The car runs very well and it is very quick. The exhaust has a nice sound to it and the stereo isn't all that bad either. I would recommend this car, but I would suggest buying one used. They don't hold their value very well. You would pay close to $20,000 for a new one and it would be worth $12,000 in six months. It's just a suggestion.

I am having the same rotor problems with my 2001 SE. I have had them machined once and I now need to replace them only two months later. Even the dealer told me that it is a common problem for these cars which is a little disappointing to hear. Otherwise the car has been pretty good, but I do agree, buy used and save a few thousand bucks.
