I just bought a 2001 Grand Am GT1. I haven't even seen it as of yet. But I would like some information on what after market components I could put on it. Names of companies, you know that sort of thing. Anything would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, e-mail at boarderbob_2@yahoo.com.

I have a 1997 Grand Am GT. Love the car and it gets up and goes. The only thing that really sucks is that it cuts out at about 100mph. I know it has something to do with the chip (governor). Does anyone have a reasonable solution to get more speed?

I purchased my 2000 Pontiac Grand Am GT a year and half ago, as a used vehicle, at the time it has 34,000 miles on it. Now after 20,000 miles of driving, I love my car.
But, it has cost my wallet a lot to keep it going.
Beyond the normal routine maintenance, I have had to replace the regulator on the driver's side for the power window to go up and down. The dimmer switch for my head lights to go from high beam to low beam without blowing head light bulbs, the fuel pump, fuel gage, (after running out of gas on a half tank shown)the radiator, the seal for the moon roof (leaking). Still on my list of things to work on will be the a/c control, only works on 2 or 3 setting, and the a/c button itself is not functional, runs a/c regardless.
The windshield wiper fluid container has been replaced twice, and still leaks out the fluids, and the indicator light for low fluid is always on. The service vehicle soon light is always on, and the 3 different mechanic shops can not find any codes to why or what is wrong.
Like I said, I love my, but I wonder why is there so many problems.

I just brought a used Pontiac Grand Am SE2, and the car is really great. It looks brand new. It is will run. It has a 3400 V6 SFI engine. Whoever says that a Pontiac grand am is a bad car, and they won't buy one, they are crazy. It has 120 mph on the dash board. It also has about 170 horsepower engine.

I bought a 98 Grand Am GT 6 months ago. I have had problems with it since I got it. The trans slips and jerks the whole car really hard sometimes. Lately it has been stalling after I reverse and put it in drive. I have had it looked at, and they all tell me that there is nothing wrong with the car. I am totally frustrated with this. My sister has a '00 Grand Am SE for 3 years now, and she loves it. She has not had one problem with it. I guess some cars are good, and some aren't.

Hi,
I own a 2003 Grand Am GT with the 3.4 V6 Ram Air engine. Last Sunday (Jan-16) I drove a 2005 BMW 330i up to 245 km/h. Although it weighs much less than the Grand Am and has a smaller engine, it develops larger power and torque, and consequently more speed.
Then I drove the Grand Am, and the fastest I could go was 215 km/h. I consider the Grand Am a great car and I love it, but its power is rather poor. The torque is good, but it can be much better.
Right now I'm working toward installing a supercharger in the Grand Am, along with some suspension reinforcements and brakes. Let's see if with some work, the almighty Grand Am can claim some respect from the Bimmer.

I own a 2000 Grand Am GT, and it does fine. I will admit I was not thrilled with the gear ratios though, the first gear will spin tires, but the second gear makes it seem like the car gets tired and needs to take a break. Mine all stock and running 110 octane fuel will run a 15.5 in the 1/4 mile. and to the guy who started this forum, take your ETS off, or your traction control, it will spin'em.

I'm a proud owner of a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am Gt with a Ram air intake. And yes I can white smoke it, and yes it hauls ass but I want MORE!!! I've found intakes, superchargers, exhaust and chips. It tops out at around 100 to 110, how can I get rid of the governor, rev limiter, and take of the traction control system?

BEWARE - get rid of the Grand Am GT ASAP. It is a money pit destined to create havoc! I too fell in love with this car and it has turned into Christine - quite literally.
In the last 30 days I have been able to drive my car for 4 days - the rest of the time this car has been on the hook of a wrecker or in the shop. I have spent over $1,000 in the last 30 days on this car and it still will not start. I have replaced 2 ignition cylinders, 2 body control modules and a fuel pump. Nothing fixes this car.
This is the second Grand Am I have purchased - apparently I should have learned the first time. The first Grand Am I purchased had a faulty motor design and blew up and GM would not stand by their product. The second Grand Am has now stumped even the best of the GM mechanics and GM still maintains that they are not going to do anything to even encourage future sales.

Now I have a 2000 Grand Am GT with the Ram Air intake. And I am only 15 but I just want a car that will spin a good distance, and I know a V-6 can get up and go but will this one? Please let me know.
I know this car sounds amazing, but will it spin as good as it sounds?
Please contact me with the honest to God truth.
Thanks.

I have a 2000 olds Alero with the 3.4, and I have never had a problem getting it to go as fast as I wanted. But at least my car looks good. In this case, ribbed is not to my pleasure.
