1989 Pontiac Grand Prix SE 3.1 Liter Multi-Port F.I. from North America

Summary:

I would highly reccomend this car to anyone

Faults:

The only problem that I have had with it is the mufflers.

General Comments:

This car is incredible! The acceleration is smooth and even, but it also has power afterward. It's stance is wider than most cars, so the handling is also top notch. The interior is like a cockpit, everything is well within reach and very comfortable. It's also very cool to drive the car that is the base model of the 1989 NASCAR Championship winning car.

1989 Pontiac Grand Prix 3.1 Multi Port from North America

Summary:

A great running car

Faults:

When I first got the car, there were several loud noises coming from just about every direction when the car shifted down it when into a low rumble. I had to replace the coil pack and a wheel bearing. The wheel bearing lasted 3months and I have to put in another. No to mention the back wheel bearing that is also bad. The rear calipers locked up cost about $300 in repairs. The interior of the car did not last the seats wore badly and the rear window dash has all the fabric rotted away. The body held up, but the paint it chipping quickly. Also, the digital dash board isn't as great as what you think I have replaced one and the other seems to be acting up.

General Comments:

I only paid $1,400 for this 14 year old car and it has held up to my standards. Although, if you plan on keeping one use the E-brake to prevent your calipers from lock up. For a 3.1 this car moves along at a nice speed. The pickup is quick.

1989 Pontiac Grand Prix L.E. 3.1 from North America

Summary:

Good first car

Faults:

First the water pump and crank sensor went out. It was hard to diagnose the sensor, because it went out in spurts.

Recently I am having a stalling problem, and it is very hard to start. It stalls as soon as my foot comes off the accelerator.

The inside has held up great except for the headliner.

The factory stereo went out when I was driving it home right after I bought it. They said it had a faulty internal amp so now I have an aftermarket CD player. It needed a special kit and was quite expensive to have installed.

My hood cable is not broken.

The paint is not holding up well. The trunk is the worst.

Tires have been replaced and struts need to be.

A leaky transmission pan gasket was replaced.

General Comments:

Overall I think it has been a good first car. You can only expect things to go wrong at this age, but the drive train has been great. I'm disappointed in the paint quality.

It drives and handles great when the repairs are made.

1989 Pontiac Grand Prix LE 3.1 from North America

Summary:

JUNK

Faults:

My grand prix has been through 3 alternators and all the interior pieces are falling off. The back brakes are a JOKE!!!Also the rear suspension is not well engineered. Now the headlights and tail lights have quit. My car has had two fuel pumps, three alternators, a new power steering pump, a gas tank and many more pieces. I would not recommend these cars to anyone.

General Comments:

This car drives nicely and handles well, but repairs are frequent and COSTLY.

1989 Pontiac Grand Prix SE V6 from North America

Summary:

I really can't say enough about this car!

Faults:

Rear shocks need replaced badly.

Speedometer doesn't work at least once a day.

Check oil, check engine, and over-heat lights always on with no issues.

Automatic locks don't lock automatically anymore, and automatic mirrors don't adjust automatically.

Gas gauge doesn't work.

Check gas, change oil, etc. reminders still come on even right after servicing that particular need.

General Comments:

I love my car, she's really the best used car I have ever driven. Engine purrs like a kitten, and it's all too easy to break the speed limit, no matter what it is. Passes like a champ, and takes corners like a pro. She's the most stable and smooth car I've known, and the gas mileage is great too: the best I've had yet is 28.2 (on highway). Really handles beautifully, and for all the little wiring problems with the lights, it's all worth it to have such a reliable engine.

The two way sun roof, and radio controls on the steering wheel greatly help too. Only seats four, but very comfortably-I've ridden in each one so I know this to be true. Trunk is very spacious, and the security lighting is great at night. I love having everything at the touch of a button, and more than one way to set everything, much safer to do what you have to do while on the road.
