1994 Pontiac Grand Prix SE 3.1 from North America

Summary:

An affordable and reliable automobile

Faults:

At 71,000 the expensive 3 step computerized EGR had to be replaced.

At 73,000 Service Engine light came on and when diagnosed, was told that it was the EGR again.

At 71,500 power steering pump went out and I lost steering on a 2 lane road.

Idles rough or "rich" every once in a while and needs to be restarted (EGR acting up)

General Comments:

The car is a fast and smooth low ride. It's easy to park, easy to handle and I've had a lot of cars that treated me worst.

Nice sporty look to it, I love my ground effects and power everything is the way to go!

I have a 94 2 door SE with the 3.1 motor, I just bought mine and it has 68K on it. I have noticed sometimes when it is warmed up and at idle it will have some trouble holding an idle. It will seem to run rough, it drops down and then raises up and you can here a popping in the exhaust. Is this the problem you have seen in yours? What is the EGR?

1994 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP 3.4 Liter DOHC turbocharged from North America

Summary:

Fast, quick car. But expensive to fix!!

Faults:

I purchased this car in March of 2002. I bought the car from a young girl in Littleneck, New York for $3,750.

I have put about 6 thousand miles on the car since I had it, and I had to replace many things. For one I had to replace the alternator 2 times, then came the radiator hoses, vacuum lines, serpentine belt and tensioner, starter, coolant system flush and brake pads. This is all routine maintenance for a 94 car. You have to consider the fact that these parts are all original, so they needed to be replaced.

General Comments:

The car is extremely fast with a lot of power under the hood. It's very comfy, and a great looking car all around.

1994 Pontiac Grand Prix SE 3.1 V6 from North America

Summary:

Great car except its maintenance problems

Faults:

New front brakes at 65K miles.

New microprocessor module, and/or electrical connector at 85K miles.

Interior heating core (the small radiator under the dash) replaced twice! 78K and 90K.Luckily the second time was covered under the replacement part?s warranty. But this says something about GM parts in general.

Rear brakes, serpentine belt and tensioner at 110K miles.

Water pump at 112K.

And finally the real kicker, transmission at 115K. I am still trying to decide if the car is worth fixing. Because at $2000 for a new transmission, I doubt the car is likely to latest much longer. Plus I am getting tired of the maintenance costs.

General Comments:

We bought the 4-door SE Grand Prix used and with high mileage.

It is a great car for its handling, stability, and relatively good power. Love the way it drives.

Our SE model has all the interior power features and we are surprised all are still work well.

I especially feel safe in this big, heavy car and its relative (for its age) new safety features; dual air bags, anti-lock brakes.

The biggest disappointment has the maintenance costs.

My '94 Grand Prix has 150,000 miles on it, and I have only had the brake pads (at 130k miles) the serpentine belt (140k miles) and a few sets of tires changed on it. I has always been reliable and relatively maintenance free. Its been 50k miles since the spark plugs were changed and it passed our (California) smog inspection very well.

1994 Pontiac Grand Prix SE 3.1 Liter from North America

Summary:

A sporty car with lots of energy

Faults:

Once in a while when I turn it on there are wisps of smoke that come from the steering column. I haven't taken it in to be fixed yet, but I think it's a short in one of the wires.

When I drive on the expressway the "Service Engine Soon" warning light will come on.

I took it to the car wash and now the brakes are making a grinding noise.

General Comments:

I have only had this car for about 3 weeks, but it is a major improvement over my old one. It looks nice and handles well.
