1999 Pontiac Grand Prix SE 3.1 from North America

Summary:

Not meant to last

Faults:

Great car for 5 years and that's it.

First it was water on the passenger side floor. 2 cents worth of silicone fixed that once you find the leak in the rubber around the windshield. Trace the drips of water back..

Then the warranty expired... and...

Then the air conditioner went.

Then the water pump.

Then the master switch for the windows.

Then the intake manifold.

Then the rust in the body. Have you priced rocker panels for a Grand Prix? A trunk? I found it is cheaper to have someone make rocker panels for you.

Then all the window motors..

Then the head gasket.

This car has been serviced faithfully by the dealership I bought it from. Never more than 5,000 between oil changes. They are excellent mechanics, not their fault.

My friend has the exact same vehicle 2 years newer, however she put more miles on her vehicle. Her car has a few more kilometres than mine. I can tell her exactly what is going to happen to her car and it does within six months.

General Comments:

I loved this car when I bought it. Sharp looking, handles great, fun to drive, elegant interior. In hindsight it has been a very expensive car to keep running and not at all reliable.

Equipped with many little luxuries that are wonderful in the beginning... until you have to fix them. They are very expensive.

This time I have purchased a new car of a brand known for longevity, with fewer luxuries to fix, with roller windows that I will never have to replace.

1999 Pontiac Grand Prix SE 3.8 series 2 from North America

Summary:

Nice looking, but built to break over and over

Faults:

- Water leak on passenger side due to rubber seal. Reached by removing the heater fan and pushing it back in place.

- Coolant leak in number 1 cylinder. Ruined engine. Replaced it.

- Strut mounts don`t last.

- Very weak headlights, even with Sylvannia Nighthawk bulbs.

- Now the engine is stalling only when warm. Changed fuel filter; I am not sure where to begin to start changing more parts without spending more than the car is worth.

General Comments:

Last Pontiac I will ever own!!!

Just type in stalling problems and view all the results, which proves this is not the exception.

1999 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP 3.8 Supercharged from North America

Summary:

This is the best car ever

Faults:

Well the only things that have gone with this car is the HUD that does not work at all, and the front passenger side brake caliper. Also the brakes tend to heat up real quick, so very good brakes are the way to go.

Also my valve cover gasket blew at 125k miles and was leaking oil.

General Comments:

If you are looking for a fast car this is the way to go.

This car handles awesome on curves even when you are hitting top speed.

This is the best car for the money.

Picks up speed like nothing and at the instant you press on the accelerator.

This has been the best car I have ever had.

Now I am smashing on 5.0 mustangs like they were toys and my car only has modified exhaust and MSD ignition.

1999 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP Coupe 3.8L supercharged from North America

Summary:

Great car with great styling

Faults:

In fall/winter of 2007 it developed a leak in the passenger door due to a failure in the body panel which caused the passenger side to become a pond - took the dealership one week & less than $400 to repair.

General Comments:

It has been a very reliable & comfortable car.

Good looks, lots of power, great handling.

It has the heads up display, leather interior, & upscale AM-FM CD changer stereo & speakers.

I have no complaints.
