When I paid for a full brake replacement on my 1990 LeMans in 2001, the mechanic told me the system was flawed. The brakes were shot not long after the full replacement job (rotors & disks). He told me it was due to the design.

This was my review on that car, long before this current discussion started http://www.carsurvey.org/review_121189.html

Thanks for the update. I see you gave the car a fair review and I agree, I wouldn't keep a car very long especially once you know it has a flaw.
Usually though through reviews on here or elsewhere you do hear about a car's bad points, and flaws or recalls, even back in the day before the internet like on other sources such as magazines or whatever, I just don't remember this particular one.

Reading through others reviews on this site regarding this car from the late 80s era, there are a few that call out the brake issues or constant pad replacements. Most likely you're not going to find any Google information about any of the issues that came with these models. These cars were not huge sellers like the Citation family of cars which also had a massive amount of brake problems and recalls to go with it that were well publicized. This particular car should have never even used the "LeMans" nameplate. A far cry from the body on frame rear drive predecessors that they replaced. Pontiac should bring back the "Astre" name for these low budget vehicles. Build quality was about the same.

Unless Pontiac somehow arises from the grave it has been in for the last 10+ years, it won't be bringing back the name "Astre", or any other model names, ever.

Fair enough, but could you provide a link to the information on the LeMans flaw? I couldn't find much about it. I know it was a long time ago, but I hope people took appropriate legal action at the time. A design flaw on something as simple and important as brakes seems shocking even for 1989/90.
