1992 Pontiac Sunbird SE 2.6? from North America

Summary:

Reliable bargain that`s great for your kids, your wife, or you

Faults:

Car smelled from coolant, yet never found a leak or had thermostat problems. Worst problem, a leak behind the dash that no one could ever localize. (took to 3 different places...)

General Comments:

A smooth car to drive; handles well with very good power. Great sound system. Excellent (to me) gas mileage (~26.5 mpg)

1992 Pontiac Sunbird L E 2.0 from North America

Summary:

Extremely reliable, and decent performance

Faults:

The alternator went out at 91000 miles.

The fan motor went out at 110000 miles.

Those are the only 2 things that have gone wrong with this car since I have had it.

General Comments:

There is not a lot of power, so I constantly have the accelerator on the floor, or I am standing on the brake.

This car refuses to die.

Seats are a bit narrow, but there is plenty of legroom in front.

The driver seat is held up by a brick.

The hubcaps flew off.

The trunk is rusted out.

There isn't much paint left on the car.

It doesn't use oil though, and it gets the best of everything, premium fuel (regardless of price), oil change every 3,000 miles, a can of slick 50 every 6000 miles. I also have a tune up every 20,000 miles. I have no car payment, and the insurance is cheap, so I can afford to spend money on it.

The driver door falls about 1/2 inch when I open it.

People laugh and point at me when I am in it, but I don't care. It's getting me through med-school, and in a few years I will have something like a Lexus, and I will have the last laugh!

Please don`t get a Lexus. Then people will know you waste money on what is a glorified toyota camry. Please don`t waste your hard earned money.

1992 Pontiac Sunbird SE 2.0 4 cylinder. from North America

Summary:

SUNburnt gasket!

Faults:

The first thing that went wrong on my car was the exhaust line (at the converter) started to fall off.

The second thing that I can remember was the head gasket blew. I have read other ones that have done the same, so...?

The third thing was the thermostat.

The engine coolant fan was giving out. (temp. gauge went up and down)

The interior lights didn't always go off right away, and sometimes stayed on.

The last thing that was my fault was well I totaled it... no one's fault, but mine!!!

Tape deck was disconnected at the base of the radio.

Had to replace some fuses. Rear Defroster stopped working, as well as the cigarette lighter.

Big oil leak beneath the valve cover. Soooo easy to fix.

General Comments:

I loved my Sunbird. It got me to school and back and saved my life. If it wasn't such a heavy, durable car I would've died. (I was t-boned, the S-10 that hit me was going 55 MPH.)

It was a good car in the winter, I live out in the country where I guess our county doesn't believe in salt. Overall, besides the head gasket blowing, it was a very good and inexpensive car. It got me from point A to point B and was even good, without the luxuries.

Radio was decent for a '92, surprisingly easy to get in and out of the back seat.

The trunk was pretty spacious.

Not very many blind spots.

It had good pick-up for a 4 cyl.

I liked it because of the ground clearance, it generally sat higher up off the ground than a lot of cars I know.

Overall good car, and I'd get another one.

Well I have a blue 1992 4 door Pontiac Sunbird. It always gets me where I need to go.

I have had problems with the defrost; it does not work any more so...? But that should be easy to fix, the blinkers went out along with the third light and left brake light. The wiring is a little messed up.

I get good MPG in and out of town, so I will keep it. It is nice and reliable on trips, so I'll keep mine.
