1998 Pontiac Sunfire SE 2.2L 4 cylinder from North America

Summary:

Is it going to start this time???

Faults:

I had to get a new Crankshaft Position Sensor, but it revs when I'm driving it like it wants to speed up and I don't have a clue what it might be. Is it the tranny? If so is that gonna be expensive to get fixed? With my luck probably. Sometimes it won't even start, then I have to wait a half hour before I can try it again.

General Comments:

I love the style and its sporty looks.

Really, what did you expect with a car that has 167,000 miles? Those parts you have replaced are considered very normal to be needing replacement with that high a mileage!!!

1998 Pontiac Sunfire GT 2.4L DOHC from North America

Summary:

Firebird Jr

Faults:

Brakes have been serviced twice (new rotors/drums).

Clock display on CD player no longer works.

Rear speakers stopped working, front speakers starting to go.

Clear-coat is wearing off of the car very badly.

General Comments:

This car is awesome. It is quick, and very solid on the highway. It also handles very nicely. Some impressive features that my car has include; steering wheel controls, sunroof, keyless entry, rims, and dual exhaust.

The exterior of the car is very attractive, it resembles that of the Firebird. The interior is not bad, but the seats are a very ugly color and are not that comfortable.

Issues with the stereo have been annoying. I installed an aftermarket deck with new rear speakers. This made me lose my steering wheel controls. Unfortunately the car was broken into and some jack*** stole the deck so I am back to the factory unit with a display that doesn't work.

People may think that these are disposable cars, and in a sense it is true. They are disposable because people do not take care of them. I run fully synthetic oil in mine, and it doesn't burn any oil and it doesn't even look that dirty when I do oil changes. If you have a car that has been well taken care of, it WILL last a LONG time. And the good thing is that parts are very available and very cheap since there are so many Sunfires in the scrap yard!

This car is fast, sporty, handles well, and is great on gas. As long as it has been properly taken care of, you have yourself a nice ride.

You're totally right. I always had problems with the brakes on mine, but I think I'm going to fix it. I'm going to the USA. I'm in Mexico.

However, the car is a dream come true, it is very fast for a 4 cylinder, and the looks are awesome. It's really great on gas, and the acceleration is way quick, I just installed platinum plugs too, keep on rockin.

I don't have the stereo, because I when I drive, I drive, I don't get into the car to listen to music, not in this car, it may be mad...

1998 Pontiac Sunfire from North America

Summary:

This car is dangerous!!!

Faults:

Where do I start?? So... I almost died in this car about 20 times because the brakes gave out 3 days after I got brand new brakes. The gas pedal sticks and suddenly you are flying down the road uncontrollably. You have to have your foot on the gas or the brake pedal AT ALL TIMES!!! Or the car will shut off, even if you are going 75mph down the highway.

Everything rusts on this car, and it makes so much noise that you may as well not even listen to the radio because you cannot hear it anyways.

The transmissions jumps like a kangaroo, the gas tank has been replaced 3 times in 2 years, and the brakes have been replaced 4 times in 2 years.

If you want to live, please do not get this car, even if it is free... problems, problems, PROBLEMS!!!

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? No

Yeah, OK. Multiple gas tanks, dies and accelerates on its own, brakes died 3 days after replacement.

You're talking about the car in the movie Christine. What you're describing is literally impossible in a real car unless your "mechanic" is putting in old garbage parts, or is completely stupid himself and fixing the wrong parts each time.

Your review should be removed from this website. It is clearly intended to degrade the reputation of this car unduly.
