I think dealers survive on the service departments. Cars today last a long time. The profit levels on many new cars isn't a lot. In my area they send coupons for oil changes etc which are often pretty good. This car comment was not a 1975 car coming into a dealer on 2016. It wasn't really that old at the time. I take my Corvette in to the dealer, with over 10 quarts of oil and 2 drain plugs. Yes that's correct. My car will never see a 15 minute bargain quick lube or most specialists.

Original author of the first post. You're right, main dealers can offer some pretty good services, they are not all bad. I was just saying to this guy who wrote the review, if he still has the car (or anyone with a classic Porsche for that matter), there are surely many Porsche specialists who may be able to do extra work that a quick fix garage or dealer would not be able to do on an older car, and it depends on where in the world you live though; some towns and cities have really good independent garages; others not so much.
I live in the UK and I'm not sure what the USA dealer network is like with any car, but personally I'd never take a car to any main dealer if it's more than 10 years old, or out of warranty; I've always found them expensive and uninterested when it comes to older car repairs. Good independents are worth seeking out, not just the oil/tyre change garages, the actual competent time-served mechanics that can do other heavy work such as engine swaps and so-on; they generally run their own garages and are more than happy to help with older vehicles.

On basic full services many dealers are realizing that they can draw more people in every day. I go to a Ford dealer that ends up being less than a couple of fast lube places on oil changes. Their full service runs around 50 where the dealer is around 10.00 less in my case. And they have a fast turnaround as far as wait. They mail coupons to me. I know this car may not be cheap to maintain. I wonder if anyone on here owns the 914 with the 6?

Maybe they broke the original motor mounts. And I suspect being in business they would try to upsell new mounts if detected for far more than 20.00. Find a used 911.
