I have tested the first BMW SMG which is also similar effect. Also Selespeed Alfa Model. However, this Car manufacturer introduce this gearbox way almost 10 years ago. Now their gearbox is much more smoother.

Apart from it, Nissan/honda does not use AMT concept, BUT, they are using CVT transmission which is completely different. Example, people mistakenly thought Honda City has 7 speed which is not. It is only a 'Virtual Speed'.Yet CVT gearbox offers smooth operation.

AMT technology is a kit attached to a manual gearbox. CVT is a new type of auto transmission. So manual is likely to have more jerking compared to CVT transmission.

Latest Car manufacturer uses an advance AMT gearbox for performance car because this car require manual gearbox. And suprisingly it is smooth as CVT transmission.

If Savvy uses the latest AMT version, it will be expensive. As you all know, the most expensive parts is the gearbox itself.

So, for a car less than RM45,000 like savvy, for me it is worth to buy.

Guys...

Knowingly savvy shares common minor problem. Engine difficulties to start and jerking.. It happened to me.. so I went to a Renault specialist and only cost me RM45.00 only.

1) Throttle body re service.

2) Flywheel Speed Sensor re clean.

Result: Positive response and easy to start. Less jerk.Recommended to re service every 30000km.

Time consumed: 40 minutes for constant servicing.

I'm thinking of owning a Savvy on my own, but since none of my friends are using a Savvy, I need opinion from you guys..

Is it difficult to maintain this car.. this is my very first car, so I want to get to know it before to love it...

Between the Savvy, Myvi and Getz (Honda) which one is the best for me, since I'm looking for an affordable, easy maintenance, low fuel consumption but yet able to be used for traveling..

Opinion please...

Follow your heart.

You don't have to see surround your friends who are not driving Savvy. Different people have different perception on buying car. But majority would go for the attractive shape OR an ugly shape but branded.

For Fuel consumption, use Savvy. Maintenance, this car has a reasonable price if you maintain as per schedule. Let you know, timing belt set around RM450 with labour cost should you go to Renault specialist.

Savvy has great handling which is suitable for Malaysian Road. While Myvi needs suspension upgrade.

I chosed savvy because of technology and handling. Where can we find an affordable car with 5 speed AMT and good handling just like lotus?.

Hi.

I just got my Savvy in July 08, now my car was in proton service center almost for 3 weeks because they don't have a spare part to replace. I'm having a 2nd breakdown in the middle of no where in 29 Aug 2008 and need to call towing service. I send my car back to the same service center (1st breakdown happen after 3 weeks I got the car). Now I felt so regret to choose savvy perhaps cause I'm having difficulties without my own transport. Maybe I got a bad luck getting a problematic Savvy in the first place. More disapointed thing, they failed to assist me to get the temporary transport.

Is it a fact that Savvy parts was difficult to get?

P/s: car problem : need robotic arm replacement.

This is a very first time heard Robotics Arms need replacement. AMT kit widely used even at Aston Martin (James Bond Car).AMT is a kit fixed to a manual gearbox using single dry clutch.

Robotics arm could be Gear stick problem. The gear stick just like an elbow touching sensors to change gear.

I hope they can change the parts. Other option is, Chery QQ is using the same AMT kit. It is a venture between Proton & Chery in Malaysia. They should have the parts.

Hi. Frankly speaking, I did not favor the car (not beautiful from the rear) at first, but after "downloaded" the car from my sister, it is a great car to drive, and not to mention the "pleasure" of having a SPORTS car at home... I mean it!!

But just yesterday I had a very annoying problem.. it just won't go into reverse.. you know after shifting the knob and push into first gear position should get the car into reverse gear.. unfortunately no!! Now I can't reverse the car and I have to shift the knob to get to 1st and 2nd gear... does anybody know what went wrong? Pls help. Thanks.

Savvy is a better solution in the small car category, advantage more than weakness, nice performance, fuel consumption, great handling, better in safety. Just expensive on the imported parts, overall is awesome... love the Savvy.

In answer to the sticky reverse gear.

I read in earlier posts that the sensor is underneath the car and gets dirty because of that. Just get it cleaned and you'll be reversing everywhere you go. haha.

Greetings.

Have you all heard of D4Ft engine, a supercharged version for our 1.2L engine? And does anyone know how to obtain this engine?

Owned my Savvy for almost 3 years. Overall performance is good.

I very satisfied with the Savvy. The fuel consumption is very low. Handling as great as a luxury car.

Maintenance is moderate and reasonable; 10000km interval for service. The maintenance average is 0.01 cent every km; that mean 60000kmx RM0.03 = RM1800.00

My service cost total until 60000km is RM1804.62 1 years = RM600++.

Quality up to standard.

The disadvantage just regarding the service charges between authorised especially PESC. There are some conflicts regarding this issue. (When making the comparison, the parts price is very different by region and service centre)

My suggestion; Proton has to put the cost incurred during service performed, whether through the Proton website or so on, but it must be published.

Proton need to show they're accountable regarding service charges and parts prices imposed by PESC or authorised service centre to make no conflict with customer interest.

SAVVY FOR LIFE

Hi guys.

I was born in Czechoslovakia and am currently living in Chiang Mai, Thailand. I plan to buy the MT Proton Savvy. I need some comments from drivers driving great distances every day for 2-3 years, something like 25,000-50,000 km/year. Older comments on this site mention many problems between 2005 and 2007. How about the 2008 and 2009 models? Still many problems? Thank you.

Milos.

Hello,

I have been driving an AMT Savvy since May 2006. It has been 3 years now and lots of problems had occurred to the car. I had faced the jerking problem, unable to start, engine dead when left idle and several other minors. I had changed the ignition/distribution coil and in fact the speed censor too, twice!.

Now I am facing problems with the transmission light on. It keeps blinking and I can't change gear! I have to turn off the engine and turn it on and keep doing it until the light disappears. What a joke!! There was one time I caused a traffic stall at Jalan Raja Laut in KL. Every time I send the car to the service centre, the same old excuse they gave and same old rectification they did. Erased the trouble code, or whatever they call it. But the same problem keeps on occurring. Now I have a phobia while driving my Savvy, wondering when the light will blink.

To those who managed to overcome the same problem, please advise me. I am already thinking of disposing the car, but I know I have to top up some more with the finance. The last three years gave me a lot of headache. Somehow, I love my savvy because of its low fuel consumption and superb handling.
