General Comments:

This car is seriously quick and handles like it's on rails.

Love the vehicle.

Not very comfortable.

A good sport feel.

However the company service has made us hate the car.

2004 Renault Clio Extreme 3 1.2 16v from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Shocking!

Faults:

I took my car for its first MOT last week, & it almost failed due to a back brake light not working.

Sounds simple to fix, but no.

Renault has soldered the bulbs to the casing, therefore they could not be taken out.

I have a Clio Extreme 1.2 16V 2004 which came with crystle rear lights, any one else had this problem?

I'm having a war with Renault now because it cost me to put it right when it shouldn't have been like that in the first place.

There is also a stupid rattle in the sunroof!

General Comments:

The car handles really crap in the rain.

OK, so I had to change the tires and the suspension system to sort out the handling. (Pirelli p zero's).

The handling otherwise is VERY soft in the corners, (standard french car thing), and used to scare me when it rained!

As for the lights, I can't say I have had any problems, I replaced all of the fronts myself and they were all fine to do.

2004 Renault Clio Dynamique 1.2 16v from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Very disappointed. I bought a new car to not have these kind of problems

Faults:

One week before its first service (coincidentially 2 years and 10000 miles on the clock) the engine diagnostic light illuminated and the car would not start. I kept on trying to start the engine and finally after about 10 goes drove the car to the main dealer in emergency mode or whatever its called at 15 mph. They serviced the car and fixed the rattle in the sunroof, but when I went to collect it the engine would not start so I had to return a week later after the throttle, wiring loom and fuel management unit were changed.

Three days later I had to call the AA as it would not start and the diagnostic light was on again. The mechanic got the car to start and cleared the errors, but said a fault still existed so I returned the car to the main dealer again. They found nothing wrong, but changed the spark plugs anyway.

The following day I attempted to start the engine and the diagnostic light came on again. The engine started on the second attempt but sounded spluttery.

I have dropped the car back to the dealer again today.

2004 Renault Clio sport 2.0 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Excellent just like Renault

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

Just want to say all these people with faults most of them are silly and just wear and tear. With the Renault engine you have to expect few problems due to them getting the power out the engine, that's the reason why they're so fun to drive.

A lot of you are taking your car to garages for silly things like spark plugs and stuff like that.

Expect to pay silly prices or get a brain and learn to do it your self It's common sense, go to your local gsf or Halfords or Partco or go to Renault get the parts and fit them yourself you will notice it's so cheap for parts. All that money you wasted.

2004 Renault Clio Dynaimque 1.2 16v petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Nippy and cheap to run, looks good, what more do you want?

Faults:

Well an exhaust gasket failed (covered under warranty)

Had an intermittent misfire, so took it to the dealer. They fixed it under warranty. All it was is that someone put the wrong spark-plugs in when the car was built.

General Comments:

This has been a great car. I have only had it for 12 months, and have done almost 25000 miles in it. All I have done apart from the above mentioned and a service, is a set of tires, and this car has never let me down.

I do a lot of motorway mileage as you could probably guess from 12 months mileage. I thought that the car would feel a little out of its depth here, but it was as happy at motorway speeds as it was pottering around town.

The dash is well laid out for the driver. A little basic looking, but it does the job. The sports seats are great and very supportive.

This car has been great on fuel, as my average has been hanging around between 46-56mpg, depending how I’m driving, but either is good to your pocket.

As for the handling, mine was upgraded with the sports pack from new, so it had lower harder springs and shocks than standard, and these did the job intended for them. They firmed up the ride a little, but not too much. The only thing to complain about really was the amount of body roll. I did however get used to this, and it's not that bad.

Good strong engine. It pulls happily with the car full, though you can tell. I put a K&N 57i kit on mine, which livened it up an amount considering that this was all I had done.

Great colour, Nordic Green, which to be honest isn’t really green, it changes colour between blue, black and purple with a tinge of green when the sun is on it, but it is the best colour for the car, as the shape of the car brings out the changes (very impressed).

The boot has good space. There is plenty of room up front, but space is limited for passengers in the back for the longer journeys. This was not a problem for me though, as I am either on my own or just with one passenger.

That is about it really. A nice car, cheap to run and insure, very reliable and comfortable.

The biggest let down is the resale values. They lose a dramatic amount of money in the first 3 years, but hold well after that. 3 years warranty and AA recovery with the car is great too.

These are much better than Corsa SXI's, as they come with all the extras and better interior, auto headlights and rain sensor wipers. The doors can automatic lock when you set off to make a hijacker's job more difficult, it and makes you feel a little safer when driving around at night.
