OK my Clio 1.2 16v Dynamique 2001 model had stalling problems when I 1st purchased it, and that was fixed by Renault after several attempts.

The car has been great over the years, and I did get the orange electrical fault light pop up last year, which my local garage managed to get rid off by a computer.

The car has been fine for a while, but on last Sunday the electrical fault light appeared again. When I switched the car on, the engine will stay on for a few seconds, misfire then the engine switched off. I took it to my local garage and after a few days of diagnostic checks no direct fault could be established. Rather than take it to Rip Off Renault, I had another reputable mechanic check my car over with a powerful diagnostic machine, who established it was the Lambda Sensor that wires pulled away from it, and fixed it!

My car is running great at the moment. My advise is to make sure the Lambda sensor is checked, this seems to be problem that I reckon Renault cannot identify.

Hi all.

I have a 2002 1.2 16v Clio Extreme.

Same kind of problems. My electrical management light come on permanently yesterday and I lost acceleration. It wasn't juddery or had any signs of cutting out. I managed to make it home on the 'limp home' mode previously described by others. Also, recently the steering wheel clicks when turning.

My dad took the car to a friend who plugged it a diagnostic computer and it was reading no faults! Clearly there was a fault. My dad being a hands on person looked under the bonnet and wiggled the black box and the light went off and is now driving OK... but how long for!!?

When he gets home I'm going to get him to look at the wires in the black box and made a long list of other things to check!

Fingers crossed its one of the simple things to sort out!

I previously owned a K reg Fiesta with over 200,000 miles on the clock and I paid £100 for this car and had it for 2 years and NO PROBLEMS WHAT SO EVER!! I decided a newer car would last longer! HA! What a joke decision!!

I'll keep everyone posted!

Hi

I have 53 plate 1.4 Clio and today the orange toxic fume light came on. What does this actually mean? My car is running fine and I have had no other problems with it.

Help. I cannot afford any kind of garage bill and would have real problems without my car. Is it safe to drive whilst this light is on. It says in the manual that it should be taken back to the dealers? Anyone got any advice please...

Please email on trudy666@talktalk.net.

Thank you all for your help.

I have a Clio Extreme 1.2 16v 2002.

The electronic fault light is a common fault on these cars and you will hear all sorts of remedies.

So far I have had a new MAP sensor, throttle body cleaned, coil pack and the car still does not run.

Renault must be aware of this fault, and have done nothing as with the bonnet catch until they were forced to. I will never own a Renault again.

After owning a p reg Clio for just short of 8 years, and having just a few minor problems with it, I had always said I would buy another Clio.

My P reg sadly was written off just before Christmas after a roof tile went through it. I bought a 53 Clio, and after 3 months thought it was a fab car until the service and airbag lights came on. I had read on the Internet that this was a common problem, and that if I went to a dealer they would do the repair FOC. So I did.. big mistake, told me it would be £80 just to do a check (cheeky). After 2 weeks the lights went out. Weeks later they came back on and stayed until last week when I moved the passenger seat and it went off. I refuse to line Renaults pockets with faults that they are aware of, and it will be the last Clio I buy. Fab cars until things begin to go wrong. With an appliance which is 7 years + you would expect it, but not with new cars, it's sooo wrong.

I have owned my Clio 1.2 Extreme (2005) for just over a year now, never had a problem until now!

There is no warning lights on the dash, but my car has a serious lack of power and has a bad misfire. I took it to a friend who put it on the diagnostics and found a fault with the "upstream oxygen sensor". He cleared the fault and it has been running fine, until yesterday. I travel approx 30 miles to my work, and the majority of it is motorway, it happened 5 times on the way home, I kept having to stop on the hard shoulder and turn the car off and switch it back on, and it would be fine for another couple of miles and happen again. Got it put back on the computer and there are no faults showing. Should I try the wiring at the back of the engine? I'm not paying £100 for a sensor if it's not showing faulty again.

I had a 2002 Golf GTI 1.8 Turbo for 4 years and never had a fault, had to get rid of it cause I bought a house, wish I had stayed with my parents and kept the decent car ha ha. If someone could reply to me on this please with any help, it would be much appreciated.

I have a 1.2 16v Clio and have encountered the common problem with the engine and emission warning lights that so many others have had. In its worst form, after the car has been started, the revs are erratic and then the engine warning light comes on and the engine stalls in a few seconds. At other times, I can drive away with no problem and then the warning light comes on and the revs are limited. Frustratingly, the fault is intermittent and the car usually works.

Last week I had to have it recovered to the local Renault garage. A number of fault diagnostics came up on their system, but after clearing these the car was fine, so the fault is still a mystery. I've looked at a number of the suggestions posted here, but can't see any obvious problems, though I'm pretty sure it has to be an electrical issue since it's intermittent. Though I've no solution to offer, it's good to know I'm not alone with these problems, and I'm posting to show solidarity with all the others who are in the same boat.

I own a Clio Dynamique 02 and I've been having the same problems as all of you. The engine management light came on about 6 months ago and didn't seem to affect the car at all so we carried on, until the famous coil and graph light appeared. This limited our power to no more than about 2200 revs, but the problem was intermittent, and when we took it to be diagnosed, the garage said there was no problem and it just needed resetting, problem solved.

Then last week, the coil light came on again so we took it back to the garage who diagnosed a 'throttle angle sensor' needed replacing, costing about £250. I came home and found this website, looked through lots of comments and so my fiance went outside and fiddled with the black box, disconnected and reconnected the battery and fiddled and wiggled a few other things - problem solved once again. Just took it for a spin and it's back to normal! A bit of wiggling has saved us £250 plus labour, so it clearly wasn't a throttle problem. Try wiggling before you spend lots of money is my advice!!
