Renault Clio 1.2 52 plate.
Hi, I too am having problems with the engine management light/ignition coil light. Mine started about six months ago and would come on intermittently, but was always able to turn engine off and restart. This kept happening for a couple of months until it did it 3/4 times a day. Took it to a local garage and they did the WKD thing as mentioned before, it worked for a couple of weeks until the light came back on again. Took it to garage who did diagnostics and again came up with 5/6 faults all saying throttle body sensor. Have changed the throttle body, but it still won't drive, just fires up and then shakes and cuts out with the battery dying. The garage are now getting an electrician to see if its the ECU. Does anyone know if anywhere will buy it like it is with that not fixed, I just want to get rid of it now! Will never be buying a Renault again! My boyfriend has a Megane too, only just recently bought and his is starting to do the same!

My Clio is a 54 plate.
Driving home and the rear lights and the dashboard lights stopped working. The brake lights and hazards still work, but the main rear lights only have disappeared.
Any thoughts or ideas?

Currently owned 2002 Renault Clio. No electrical faults. When driving in wet conditions over man holes covers, it feels like the car is steering from the back end. Are axle bushings a common problem for this year of Clio?

Hi all, I also have a upper engine wiring loom issue, and I just wanted to check to see if anyone has any suggestions as to:
1. What the part number of the loom is for a 2005 Clio TDI 1.5?
2. Any suggestions as to where's the best place to order one from on the web?

Hi, I have a 1.5 dci 03' Clio. The electrics are playing up and it is extremely dangerous. When driving, the lights and all power just flicker on and off till eventually they totally go out, nothing works, wipers, electric windows, hazard lights, everything seem to just stop. When driving at night it is very scary and dangerous. When I turn the car off then on, the light comes back on, but only for a short time before flashing on and off?
Anyone any ideas what this could be?

My Clio (53 plate Extreme) feels like I'm driving with the handbrake on.
Really juddery, won't rev properly and wants to stall at lights.
I took it to a mechanic, and he thought it was muck making the computer go wrong. Weirdly, when I drove to the garage, it was running OK, but with the fault light on.
Took stuff apart and cleaned it up, and it ran great for 100 miles, no fault light anymore and today it went on again.
Really don't know what to do, because I can't go having 5 or 6 parts replaced over the coming months in a game of trial and error.

My 1.4 automatic Clio has developed the problem mentioned by so many previous correspondents i.e. will start only after multiple attempts and then it runs very roughly, at best - frequently cuts out altogether. Being an automatic, I can't keep it going by allowing the wheels to keep turning. It has cut out completely at all speeds up to about 60 m.p.h. Have replaced the plugs, coils and the throttle body without any noticeable effect.
The only suggestions my garage can make now are the loom, maybe the ECU or one or more of the sensors. As it is quite old I will probably just scrap it. I don't mind paying for 'normal' repairs, but there are just too many electrical/electronic problems mentioned on this site to tempt me to replace it with another Renault.

Hi guys, still see you have a problem, I have a Renault mobile specialist who still works for Renault, but at the weekend he works for himself, now he is based up in Manchester, I had all the problems you guys are explaining, if you check my long comment, my name was Arron.
Email me if you want to know more about what I did to finally resolve the issue of it chugging and stalling. It cost me £70 cash paid. Took him 2 hours to find the fault problem with spark plugs and installed them correctly for me. The throttle body didn't need changing; just was covered in so much oil it got into the sensors.
I have his number and he is the only mechanic I use now. He has all Renault training and experience and he know his stuff. Before I even said where I think it's coming from, he knew the answer straight away.
Guys, get in touch with me. Want to know if you need help, I can help you.
Contact me on that:

Trouble with my car was that when it was sat for a few hours or a day, it would run OK for a while.
When it ran bad, it had erratic tickover and felt like driving on 2 cylinders.
Every time the mechanic looked it over, all seemed OK.
But luckily it was still running like a dog when he came round one day.
My problem was a faulty coil pack.
I did have a problem around 20k where the yellow light of death kept coming on. That was caused by the badly designed black box rubbing on the wires, so I was told.
Wiring loom and coil pack or faulty coils seem to be the 3 main problems with this model.

I have a 51 plate 1.2 16v Clio Authentique bought in Dec 2009.
Well, what do you know, like everyone else on here, my car has been a nightmare since I bought it... and I've only had it 6 weeks.
But I think my most recent problem may have been sorted so I wanted to share my info.
3 days ago the engine management light started flashing intermittently, the car was juddering but with no pattern.
I broke down on a main road, but luckily after a few minutes got it going again. Like a lot of you, the revs were doing what they fancied, petrol being used up quickly, misfiring, idling.
I took it to a garage, they changed the coil pack, that did nothing and they gave it back to me (minus my engine cover!). Today a friend looked at it and changed the spark plugs, 2 of them were totally dead and the leads weren't pushed in properly, he even had to cut the ends of the leads to get them in so they weren't wobbling about. The car was saying "oil OK", but when checked it was below minimum. I checked my HT leads and they are fine.
Now I also know it needs a lambda sensor, Halfords told me they are £180 but brand new on ebay they are £20-£50 and luckily I have some one that can fit it for free. All together I will have spent about £65 on it, which is a lot less than the garage and Halfords told me!
I am a woman and knew bugger all about cars until I bought this, and had to keep researching it.
Sorry for the long message, but I do hope this helps someone else, I would never advise anyone to buy a Renault Clio.. especially after looking on here & I will never buy a Renault again!

Oh dear, is this the start of something? My wife's 54 plate 1.2 Clio Extreme was totally flat this morning. Checked the obvious - had she left lights on etc but nothing obvious. However when I put the battery charger on, the heater blower inside the car came on, it was on its usual setting of number 1, but for some reason, DID NOT SWITCH OFF when my wife removed the ignition key, and, must have run and run until it flattened the battery! Is this the start of wiring loom problems? I'm concerned now that potentially something happens at night, and the car goes on fire and burns my garage and then my house down.
