55 plate Clio, everything normal, but when leaving the car ticking over, the engine is surging, then go to pull away and no power. Got to sit and rev the car to get power back. Any ideas???

Clio 52 1.2.

As with everyone, my car won't start. I recently got a new starter motor fitted, this helped for 2 weeks, got it repaired 4 days later it won't start again... I've changed the spark plugs etc. and still have no idea what the problem is... it's currently in the garage hoping they find what is wrong with it...

I have a Y reg Renault Clio, and I have had no end of problems with this car...

I have had the battery replaced, wiring loom, map sensor, and today Renault have now said it's the throttle sensor seal!!!

The problem I am having is when I am about to stop and go from down the gears, the engine management light comes on and then the car jumps and then stalls. Starts straight away, but have to really rev the car to get the light off!!!

We spent £496.00 for Renault to diagnose this fault, and they told us it was either one of two faults; a wiring loom or the map sensor. We have had both these replaced, and now today it is the throttle sensor seal!!! HELP, will this sort this out, and should I have spent £496.00 for a wiring loom, which clearly hasn't sorted the fault out!!!

Have a look at the comment made on '23rd Sep 2008, 04:15' (on page 331-345).

It contains a round up of all the fixes made by other Clio owners that have commented here.

For me, the loose metal box appears to be the cause of the non-starting/erratic idling/warning lights. As soon as it passes MOT next week it'll be for sale - what a heap of ****!

I have had my Renault Clio 02 plate for 2 years. The first time the engine management light came on, I went to the garage who told me I had a problem with my coil?? I have never heard of this before, but they fixed it for £250.00. I few months later I was driving on the motorway and the light returned again; this time the drive stayed smooth like nothing had happened. I returned home, and when I next went to get in my car, the light had disappeared.

6 months down the line, I get into my car and notice the light has came back on!!! The car is still driving like normal and there seems to be no problems with it, but this time the light has stayed on. Can anybody help save me a couple of hundred pounds?

2006 Clio 1.4.

This problem has just started to happen to my partner's Clio; stalling at traffic lights, loss of power. She is a nervous wreck now driving to and from work; it happened 3 times this morning.

Do the new shape Clios have this box that is rubbing on the wires, and whereabouts is it?

The car is only a year out of its warranty, but we won't rest to it's sorted, because the car is in my opinion not fit for the road, and looking at the comments on here, then Renault have a problem with the way they manufacture their cars.

Clio 2008. No major problems.

MPG meter stopped working. Solved by holding in function button on wiper stalk and switching on ignition (NOT start). Goes through diagnostics, then press reset button by rev counter. After seeing comments by other Clio owners, I will keep an eye on the wiring loom.

One annoying problem tapping noise from petrol tank? Petrol float? Anyone had any experience of this?? Easy solution? Reluctant to take it to main dealers, who, from their prices are "rip off merchants".

My experience with bikes and cars over 50 years has been to always check plugs and connectors first; a bit of WD40 can solve a lot of problems.

Good motoring to all of you.

I have Renault Clio Sport, 1.2 16v Y reg. All problems are exact the same as what I'm going through. Have had the car 2 years and gradually has got worse, the electrical warning light suddenly comes on when stopping, going into a lower gear, parking etc, then the car starts to rev up and down on its own. I have to rev the car quite hard to make it go back to normal. Driving to work is a nightmare!! Happened about 11 times today and only work 4 miles away from home! Too scared to take it in, in case the damage is too much to pay!

I have had my 1997 1.2 'R' reg Clio for 8 months.

In this time I have spent nearly £800 having the following replaced: Catalytic convertor, battery, starter motor, new key/code, tryes and MOT.

After which she ran like a dream until 6 weeks ago when the engine cut out when I slowed down... I thought I had stalled somehow and blamed myself until it happened again and again. It happened 4 times while driving 2 miles yesterday!

I have had the spark plugs replaced and nothing has changed, it constantly feels like it is going to cut out and seems to have no power in low gears jerking forward once it seems to 'find' the power!

After reading all of the comments, I am going to try getting the TDC sensor & manifold sensor cleaned to see if this might fix it.

I love this car, but HATE the amount of money it is starting to cost.

Ginny.

I have had the problem with my 51 plate Clio Expression cutting out at roundabouts and coming to a stop. I noticed the black box thing, and had someone sort that out, and then it was fine.

I was in some heavy rain and spray on the motorway, where the problem came back, and now as I had my son in the car with my girlfriend, I thought this has gone too far, and my car got sent to a Renault garage to be diagnosed fully, and I've been told I need a new wiring loom, ECU, throttle body and 2 gaskets apparently.

I personally think the only thing I need is the wiring loom, as the problem has only happened after heavy rain in my case. I have looked over all the suggested fixes, and I think the only fix for me is getting the whole new wiring loom and throttle body sorted, and if it's not that, I'm sending my car to the scrap yard.

I have also had the oxygen sensor replaced, and this didn't cure the problem, so if it does come down to me needing the new ECU, I'm really not going to bother.

So please if anyone out there has a definite answer out there for me, please give me some suggestions. I'm even waiting for my Haynes manual to come, so I can diagnose these problems myself with the car, so please let me know if there is something I can do, other than get rid of this car.
