I have just recently bought a Y reg 2001 1.2 16v Clio Sport. I bought it from an auction which I not something I would recommend as I have had a number of problems.
1st being the passenger window would not close or open. I got my boyfriend to take of the door panel and he managed to sort the wiring so that the window would go down, but it would not go up.
2nd problem is the engine warning light flashes. It doesn't tick over on enough revs and just judders when not moving. I had spark plugs and a coil replaced, but it still judders and seems to be flat and have no power at all. when my boyfriend checked the spark plugs there didn't seem to be enough power getting to them as the spark was really weak. I am considering taking it for a diagnostic check, but am wondering if replacing the lambda sensor could help? anyone have any ideas what could be wrong and how much it will cost to fix??

To the previous poster, I too have recently bought a Y reg Clio 1.2 16V Sport (in Dec 06). I have a different problem to you which is the intermittent problem with starting. Last week I drove it to the pub after work with no problem. When we went to leave I turned the key in the ignition, all the lights came on, but no turn over. It has not started again for the last week, but I took it to the garage on Sunday night (push started) and they turned it over Monday morning first time. They and I are reluctant to change the starter motor as this does not appear to be the problem. I have recently contacted the seller and she said that they had this problem, changed the starter motor and problem went away... not sure if I am convinced, but that doesn't help me. Any ideas...? It has already been in the garage once and they couldn't find a problem so just cleaned the connections (for £25). Its not at a Renault garage...

Hi all again - further to my comments of March 16, 2007.
Clio 1.2 16V with electrical problems. 51 Dynamique. Electrical warning light (orange) and engine cutting out.
I have some good news. After having the MAP sensor replaced and the single cut out shortly thereafter, the problem has not recurred since. Maybe the engine management system was still learning after the sensor replacement? But now after a few hundred miles the car is still performing fine. But I've still got my fingers crossed!

I have a 51 Plate Clio 5 door. The service and airbag light are always on, but the light does not make any difference on my car performance or anything at all. My car still drives perfectly. Does any one know how to remove this light? please help me. Thanks.

Renault Clio 1.2 Dynamique (51). About 3 months ago started juddering with loss of power, orange coil light came on and thought it best to take it to the renault dealer (Salisbury). They diagnosed the number 2 cylinder misfiring and replaced the spark plugs. I was told that they had put the car back onto the diagnostic computer and all was fine. I travelled around eight miles on my way home to find that the car started juddering again, although not as bad as it was and the light came back on the dash. Took it back to Renault, they did not know what was wrong with it. That was £80 NOT well spent. Still judders, but do not know whether it is the coil, leads, wiring loom or the black box?

I have a renault clio 52 reg 1,2 and the left winker only works all the bulbs are OK and dash board is OK. The right winker turn works the left winker. Hazard lights work on both.

I have opposite problem to most of you - newly acquired R reg. Clio revs up at intermittent times - sold to my 18 year old son by private individual, looked over by skilled mechanic, who also drove it. No fault until a week later - has spent a week in a garage, stripped down etc - fault remains. V. dangerous of course. I do so wish I had known about all these problems before I bought the car. It's obviously not worth much due to its age, so I might as well throw my money down the drain. How strange that so many of you have cutting out/low rev problems and ours is just the reverse.

I have a Renault Clio 1.2 on an X registration.
First thing that went wrong was the drivers window, one day driving along and it went down all on it's own! Never worked since and I have it butted up so it doesn't work.
Now since beginning of the year have encountered all of the problems of most of the others on this website, starting problems, turns over and then cuts out. At first thought it probably needed a new battery, replaced and helped for a while. Have since had problems starting the car, it finally gave up last Friday, at home thankfully!
Have replaced coil pack and crankshaft sensor. Still will not start, car turns over, but will not fire.
I've read about the TDC - anyone think this will help?
I have booked in to Car Solutions for fault diagnosis although after reading comments on this website not sure if that's gonna resolve my problem!
Comments/advice appreciated.

Bought my Clio in June '05 (52-Plate 1.2 16V Extreme with 19K on the clock). In May '06 car began misfiring. Changed all spark plugs, problem still remained. Replaced entire coil pack and ignition leads for a fee of £80 at a local garage. Problem solved. Just recently (May '07) car has began shaking/juddering on lower revs/through gear changes. Also noticed a small hissing noise coming from the engine area when accelerator is pressed. Anyone have any advice? I refuse to believe a new coil pack, ignition leads and spark plugs would only last about 12,000 miles. Also have faulty bonnet catch, rattling sunroof and stalls on a cold engine at traffic lights etc...

Hi people,
I recently had my car service from RENAULT (£290.00 bill), which they could not justify.
This is more for the people that have been experiencing problems with there car cutting out and that orange light coming on. If your spark plugs have been replaced, check there is a gap at the top, where the metal should slide into. I had my car service and that's exactly what the problem was. I had to call out AA and they sorted out the problem for me. When I called Renault, they informed me that there mechanic was not aware this was suppose to be done.. My best advise to people would be to get a AA guy to check your car out, as they know more about clio's than renault do. They didn't actually test drive my car before giving it back to me, which for health and safety reasons, they should do.
Hope this helps you guys.
Sam.
