Hi folks - I have had the problems mentioned on this site with the leaking sunroof & immobiliser.

To tackle the problem with the immobiliser not working due to the sunroof leaking, I would do the following during winter/wet seasons : -

Pop the IR remote out of the the unit located in the roof & leave it out. Simply to stop water getting in their & keep the unit working.

Clean the 3 IR sensors located behind the red cap for the immobiliser in the roof - these tends to get dirty from the water leaking in & hence fail to respond - Note be gentle or you will snap the sensors of the PCB. cotton bud would be idle method for cleaning.

Change the battery in the key remotes - go to somewhere like Tesco for these where they are a couple of £. I have known & have paid up to £25 for 2 batteries from a watch specialist - Mug I know!

Finally to fix the sunroof leak I am about to carry out the following :-

Lift the sunroof out of the car & seal with Tiger seal.

So far I have the sunroof out, and the sealant that was factory fitted is a joke.

I am planning to use Tiger seal.

Personally from visual observation, then I am not surprised the factory seal leaks, but positive a good sealant can fix this.

If anyone has tried this, then please pass on your comments.

Hi, I have a P reg Clio and guess what... I have a leaking roof as well!!! It's a nightmare! When I turn corners I get soaked!

The water seems to come in from the sunroof controls/lights. My central locking doesn't work either and I think it must have something to do with the leaking.

I had my Clio sunroof fixed by a company in Stockport without any problems.

Yes, yet another leaking Clio, not good in Devon where it rains all the time. Not nice getting in a car that smells like something died in there. I cannot believe Renault has not addressed this problem. I was thinking about buying a new Clio, but not now!

I will try the sunroof fix, thanks to all for the advice.

Fix a leaking Clio sunroof?!!! Possibly Hi, I bought an N reg Clio "Oasis" (note the model) yesterday and instantly we took a shower, now I did think about rewiring the car so I could get a clean warm wash in the morning, but instead I decided to investigate.

This is what I did, I do not recommend it, and it may only be my specific case!!

I first removed the internal light console with star keys as I thought it might be via the aerial, I discovered the whole of the visible roof was soaked, thus not the aerial. I then wound back the sunroof and shone a torch along the bottom of the exposed lip (where the sunroof rests when closed, you don't need the light housing off for this) I could see a slightly raised part about 6 inches long around the centre of the lip, and at both sides there was a small amount of light coming through. Also if you look forward of where this centre section is and shine the light towards, you may see light coming through. Now with careful application, I filled these areas with a silicone gun, making sure I did not over apply and affect the sitting of the sun roof, because of the amount of internal water, it may still leak excess for a while, but I'm looking forward to staying dry.

The internal light console is annoying to take off, I started from the front (DISCONNECT THE ELECTRICS FIRST!!!) taking out the light cover then lights then I pop out the blank panel just behind and unscrewed the star keys.

Hope you enjoyed my Clio story. No other complaints, great little car!!!

I've just had the same leaky sunroof problem. I have a 55 plate Clio.

First the central locking on passenger side failed - £150 to get fixed.

Then noticed a wet patch above passenger door at windscreen side. Renault dealer said sunroof needs to be replaced as they can't just fix the seal (sounds suspicious to me!) Cost to get this done - £647!! Have contacted customer service dept re warranty issues etc and they are now going to do it for £240. Reading all above horror stories, I am now thinking will this solve the problem at all?!!!

Also, was the central locking problem caused by the leak in the first place?

I have joined the leaky Clio club, and am having trouble with my immobilizer. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Put new batteries in key fob, but it still sometimes does not work. Is there anyway to bypass this stupid immobilizer system, as I really do not care if the car is without one as long as it starts! I also enjoy a shower after it rains. My Clio is a 1998 model. Any suggestions would be appreciated, as being disabled, I depend on my car, and without it I am housebound.

Thanks.

Hi Clio Club, I am a new member at 17 yrs old with my first little car, a Clio :), which I enjoy driving when it goes, but unfortunately am experiencing all the symptoms of my fellow leaky club members!

At the moment my baby is stuck in a garage awaiting help that no one seems to know off!!!

If I had known that one of Renault's added extras was a shower, and an immobiliser that immobilises so good that I can't even drive the b*****d myself, I would have reconsidered my options!!!

I am now trying to find out how you immobilise an immobiliser so she will start!!

I also believe that insurance company's should lower the group of the car, because there is no chance of stealing the thing because it's immobilised 24/7!!

I have also discovered that my immobiliser isn't near the sunroof, isn't under the ashtray, isn't under the steering wheel; guess what, it's under the passenger wing. Surely if Renault decided to put it under the passenger wing, they should of considered giving it a bodywarmer? I wonder where the next place it's going to be?!

Can any one help out there on bypassing an immobiliser?? (daddy is willing to help if advice can be given)

4 February 2010.

Another disappointed Renault Clio owner with a leaking sunroof. I have a 53 Dynamique, which now has a soaking wet carpet on the passenger side. Having to take it to the local Renault dealer for repair, which has been quoted as being £190 for replacement rubber seal. Having read all these comments from people with the same problem, I definitely feel Renault should take responsibility for their faulty design, and not expect the owner to foot the bill!

Hi all, I too have a leaky Clio, but it's not the sunroof or anywhere that I can see. The rear seats are soaking, but there is no water anywhere else in car. When I remove the seats, there is a puddle on the metal bit under the seats, but checking round the edges, it has not dripped from anywhere.

Could it be coming up from outside thru a bolt hole or something?
