1989 Renault GTA 2.8 V6 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Like the girlfriend you never had

Faults:

Fuel gauge stopped working.

Some corrosion of front sub-frame, needs welding.

Bolster in drivers seat needs replacing.

Roof and passenger door need re-spraying due to small paint bubbles.

General Comments:

Cannot stop looking at this car, everyone I know thinks it looks fantastic, even my mum!.

Real bargain of a true exotic performance car.

Once all the work is completed this car will have cost me £3,500 including the car!!.

Handles superbly in dry, just keep the power down and shock that BMW driver as you pull away.

Easy to drive around town no problem, easy clutch and gearbox, lovely steering with lots of feel and good uprated brakes.

Buy one, you won"t be disapointed, their amazing.

1987 Renault GTA V6 Turbo 2.5 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Value for money, a real flyer

Faults:

Radiator blew at 63000, very difficult to replace due to positioning.

Aluminium casting on the wing mirrors corrode causing the paint work to blister.

Drivers seat will no longer tilt forward as the mechanism has broken inside the seat upright.

Glass headlight covers have cracked twice and cannot be replaced without taking the nose cone off the car. Very expensive at £175 each plus labour.

General Comments:

Wheels have been replaced so that rear tyres can be obtained at a realistic price.

Build quality is not great and should have been improved on if Renault had kept the Alpine alive.

1990 Renault GTA V6 Turbo 2.5 turbo petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A real supercar with realistic running costs

Faults:

Windscreen wiper switch.

Alternator replaced.

Engine temperature sensor (for cold start)

Electrical earthing problems.

Turbo hoses replaced.

Clutch on its way out...

General Comments:

Fantastic performance and very refined drive. Wonderful handling although requires respect in the wet.

Exotic, rare and benefits from specialist attention - in my case by PJ Autos. The GTA definitely prefers regular use rather than once a month!

Problems in sourcing original size rear tyres have forced me to join many others in replacing the factory alloy wheels with bigger ones for which tyres can be easily obtained.

1986 Renault GTA V6 Turbo 2.5 Turbo petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Radiator, coolant hoses, alternator, wheel bearing, one rear shock, fuel injector, bubbling on wing mirrors.

General Comments:

This car has been owned from new. Renault dealers were not well versed with this car and I had trouble obtaining good dealer support (hence the bad sales in the UK). However, since I am now lucky enough to live near one of the few Alpine specialists (PJ Autos in my case), knowledge and service has improved ten fold. Parts and servicing are alot cheaper than Renault. Regular servicing and use of this vehicle really does keep this machine from high maintenance bills. The bulk of the problems I have had is when the car has been idle for months on end.
