1995 Renault Laguna RT 2.0 petrol from Jordan
Summary:
Good performer, reliable, but not perfect
Faults:
Coil module (this one's got a single coil), a couple of times.
Starter, 2 times also.
Front shocks.
Some coolant hoses failed.
Clutch around 160K.
A few niggles here and there (A/C moody sometimes, central locking not locking all doors sometimes.. things you can live with generally).
General Comments:
Reasonably fast with pretty nice torque for a 2.0 liter (The old 8v engine).
Handling is superb, takes on all kinds of corners, up and down hills wet and dry - quickly and sharply with minimum body roll, steering is precise, but a bit on the heavy side.
Suspension is notably better than most cars of its era.
On the downside, driving position is just wrong, clutch & gearbox shifter are heavy, and engine is noisy - takes away from your comfort around the city, but totally manageable on the motorway.
A bit thirsty, reasonable if you keep your foot light though, but for fuel economy and engine refinement look elsewhere.
The car looks awesome for its age - Those Renault guys designed a good looker without overdoing it into a half car/half dolphin as you would expect.
Electrics are surprisingly good, no major complaints.
Generally built to last - one of the best cars you can grab on a budget.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

The Laguna was underrated. My neighbor had his 15 years, not as unreliable as people made them out to be.
