1996 Renault Megane RXE 1.6 petrol from UK and Ireland
Faults:
There have been far too many faults to list in entirety. However I will list the most serious.
Paint (Naples Red) flaking after 3 months, resprayed under warranty, now rusting on roof.
Two lots of ignition barrels due to faulty wiring.
Poor starting in damp conditions.
"Hunting" idle speed, looked at 4 times, no solution.
Dodgy rear brake drums, supposedly fixed twice, still bind.
Faulty central locking actuator.
Two lots of "Plip" circuitry in roof.
I somtimes lose my headlights when switching from High to Main beam.
etc, etc, etc.
General Comments:
The worst car I have ever owned. I will never, ever buy another Renault. Renault UK have been attrocious in their service, the dealer was not much better. I traded in a 90,000 mile Primera for a brand new Megane. BIG MISTAKE.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? No

I would have demanded a new car, not a respray!

Renault Megane.Remote plip not working,back-up plip not working. Result £109.97p for a replacement, nice work if you can get it. Renault must have the most expensive servicing team in the country.

I got rid of my 31000 mile 1997 megane after being promoted in 1999. Seems I had a lucky escape! The only problem I encountered was a faulty intermittent front wiper setting. The wipers would usually stop mid-sweep or wouldn't work at all. The dealer couldn't find anything wrong with the unit. I have never owned another Renault since this one. A colleague owned a 1996 Laguna which was plagued with electrical and mechanical gremlins!

Renault approved garages totally inept at finding electroinic faults. Speedo doesn't work. Garage fitted new cable/speed sensor. £330 later, problem still not solved. Outcome.. 'It's a wiring fault somewhere, and we don't know where, and we don't have the knowledge to fix it'.
Never buy a Renauly again!!
